In 1951, Mr. & Mrs. Laughlin moved into their current house on Glen Oaks Drive which still stands today as one of the oldest homes in town (it was donated to Glenn Heights Historical Society). Over time, other businesses have also been established within Glenn Heights including Kline Chevrolet (now Jiffy Lube) which began operations in 1958; Peet’s Coffee & Donuts - founded by Dave Peet in 1957; First National Bank - opened its doors for business on October 1st, 1962; Midland Mutual Life Insurance Company - relocated from Plano, Texas in 1984; English Village Dairy - started milk production here on December 15th, 1949; and Macy’s Store #2 anchor store which opened its doors on November 3rd 1966 inside then existing Pinnacle Plaza Shopping Center across I-30 from present day Midland Mall! All these businesses are either long gone or no longer operate within our town limits today but their footprints remain contemporary reminders of how small this little village once was! Today there are remnants of both pioneer days and modern times with plenty of historic buildings still standing such as: Glen Oaks Drive Elementary School(which reopened its doors following a renovation project completed last year), Pioneer Park Elementary School(which serves grades K-5oday), Powers Drugstore/Cafeteria(currently closed but used for classroom instruction during school hours), Old Methodist Church(originally built around 1875 but destroyed by fire only 5 years later), Gilded Cage Casino Resort(opened it's doors earlier this year) among others! The Community Museum located just east off Main Street offers historical exhibits about local pioneers throughout history while also featuring interactive displays about local communities through photos and materials collected over time!

On November 16, 1984, the Glenn Heights School District merged with the Garland Independent School District and all of Garland's schools were placed within the new district. As part of this merger two elementary schools - Glen Oaks Elementary and Hinkle Intermediate - were also closed and merged into Highland High School which had been built adjacent to Glen Oaks Elementary since 1954.

Glenn Heights was founded in 1892 as a small farming community near Houston. The town rapidly grew and by 1902 it had over 4,000 residents. In 1907, Glenn Heights was annexed by Houston and became part of the city. The population of Glenn Heights continued to grow and by 1930 it had reached 12,500 people. In 1938, Glenn Heights was designated as the site for the first municipally-owned high school inHouston. The school opened in 1939 and served students from Glenn Heights through Houston's annexation into the city in 1898. After 15 years of operation, the school closed its doors in 1967 due to budget cuts that were made in response to Mayor Astrodome's construction project.
