However, during the late 1990s and early 2000s a number of businesses closed or merged in order to reduce costs associated with growth - including several restaurants and a motel/motel chain that became known as "Grapevine Towers". Today, much of the downtown area is home to two schools: McLennan Intermediate School (grades 7-12) and McNary High School (grades 9-12). There are also several small businesses scattered throughout the town limits including a convenience store, Subway sandwich shop, hair salon/spa, laundry detergent store and grocery store. Additionally there are several parks within walking distance of most residents including Memorial Stadium which hosts high school football games as well as concerts and other events related thereto; Interstate 20 which provides access to neighboring cities; and Huffman Park which offers swimming pools (and sometimes fishing tournaments) among others amenities not found elsewhere in Grapevine.
