In the early 1900s, Groves was a small town in Texas. It was a stop on the railroad and it also became home to some of the most famous shooters in the country. These shooters were responsible for putting Groves on the map as one of the most shooting towns in America. One of these famous shooters was John Browning, who resided in Groves until his death in 1901. He is credited with developing what is now known as the .30-06 rifle and he is also considered to be one of thefathers of modern firearms. The town continued to thrive after John Browning's death and it soon became home to other notorious gunmen including Sam Houston, who killed six people at San Jacinto Ranch in 1836. The town also grew into a center for blacksmithing and farming which contributed to its reputation as one of America's "Black Towns".

The Groves Rifle and Pistol Club was formed in 1897. The club sponsored a shooting event on the first Saturday of every month. After World War I, the club became interested in rifle/pistol shooting and organized its own events. In 1922, the club met to form a permitted Sporting Arms and Ammunition Association (SAATA) and adopted the name Texas Rifle & Pistol Club. In 1925, SAATA merged with the NRA to form the National Rifle Association (NRA).

Groves is located in the far east side of Texas, about 20 miles from Amarillo. It is an isolated community that has been around since the early 1800s. Groves was named after James B. Groves, a landowner who lived in this area and donated some of his land to the town development movement. The first store opened in 1881 and the first post office was established in 1886. The original settlers were Mostly Baptist ministers and their families who came from Tennessee and Kentucky to come down into what is now Texas as a way of escape from religious persecution back home. The people here started building log homes starting in 1884-85 with only one house being built until 1907 when a well sprang up and began irrigating the acreage for crops. In 1912,groves had its first school which taught grades 1-8inderstwhile there was no public transportation or telephone service until 1969 when Amarillo made it possible with its own line to run buses to Groves! Today, Groves consists of a few small businesses including two grocery stores, two churches, one bank (!), several apartments (both owner-occupied and rentals), a few shops (including three fabric stores), and one restaurant/cafeteria combo which serves mostly takeout food like Chinese take out containers mixed with Americanized dishes like pizza etc. There are also some small farming operations done on behalf of local farmers markets but they are not as big as those found elsewhere in TX or USA! It should be noted that although Grooves does have some things going for it such as excellent schools (grades K-12) and great access to nearby amenities (namely water resources), it also has its share of drawbacks too: For example, it is quite isolated so most residents must travel outside their community for almost everything; groceries can get pretty pricey here; parking can be tight so you may want to consider getting an RV if you've got room; there's not much else around so if you're looking for something more sequestered than usual this could be good choice; overall it feels kind of lonely...

Groves is a small town in Texas, located near the city of Austin. The name was taken from the grove of trees that used to line the banks of the Colorado River. At one time, Groves was considered to be one of the most prosperous towns in Texas. It developed around a cotton gin and distillery that were founded in 1881 by Colonel James W. Groves and his brother-in-law, Sam Houston. The cotton gin operated until 1903 when it was replaced by another plant, which still stands today. In addition to its role as a manufacturing center for cotton, Groves also became well known for its agriculture production until the late 20th century. Cotton has been an important part of Groves history ever since it was first brought over from Arkansas in 1847. Today, groves remains a rural community with a primarily agricultural focus. The early years of Groves' development were difficult due to several factors: 1) low demand for cotton due to improved transportation methods; and 2) high competition from other towns in North Texas for workers who would helpiled at the new cotton gin and distillery. However, thanks to Colonel James W. Groves and his wife Myrtle (née McNaught),grove bounced back during these difficult times and quickly emerged as one of South Texas' leading communities by 1860. By 1870, there were already more than 100 residents living in Groves proper - almost all of whom were farmers or their families subsistence reliant on landowning landowners who had remained largely untouched by technological progress or social change throughout much of American history up until this point (see Table 1). With many people working together within close-knit households through various forms of local trade and commerce - including blacksmithing, carpentry, farming/distilling products such as whiskey and coffee beans -grove slowly grew into what we know today as an industrialized community characterized by successful businesses both economic AND social (though some aspects have changed notably with advances in technology). One key driver behind this success has been Colonel James Wagoner's business acumen – he could see beyond traditional rural values towards innovative new technologies which would eventually lead to increased productivity on big farms like his own while also providing opportunities for citizens outside their homes to participate actively within their governance structures (euphemistically called "the Witwatersrand"). Thanks also to Anson Mills’s donation towards building Grove's first public school – now known as Main Street Elementary School –Grove rapidly became associated with education not only within its own borders but statewide as well during those early decades; indeed where else could you find men like Anson Mills? One outcome directly resulting from this newfound educational prominence was increased opportunity among Groomsmen themselves emanating from increased literacy rates among male citizens statewide – something that persists even today along much travelled arterial roads like Main Street Elementary School corridors! "It [the growth] can be traced back partly to Colonel James Wagoner’s initiative,"states historian Don Riddleberger about this period; "he saw beyond traditional rural values towards innovative new technologies which would eventually lead to increased productivity on big farms like his own while also providing opportunities for citizens outside their homes...Anson Mills’s donation towards building Grove’s first public school […]madeGrove rapidly become associated with education not only within its own borders but statewide […]".

In 1836, General Sam Houston and his army advanced on the Mexican city of Nogales and captured it. The following year, Houston appointed Colonel Jameson Groves as the first military governor of Texas. In 1840, Houston created a new government for Texas under which Groves was given the power to make laws and regulate commerce. Groves also served as secretary of war from 1840-1845. In 1846, he became governor of New Mexico; however, he resigned after only eight months in office because of disagreements with President Polk over Reconstruction in that state. In 1850, Groves was elected to the U.S. Senate from Texas; he served until 1857 when he resigned due to health problems. From 1861-1865, Groves was a commissioner on duty at Richmond Heights near Philadelphia during the American Civil War. He died in 1865 at age 83 years old.
