Parker killed five Mexicans in what is now known as the Massacre of El Paso. This event helped set off the American Civil War and ended with Texas joining Northeastern United States as a slave state.
Highland, Texas is a small town located in Dallas County, Texas. The population was 5,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Highland is one of six towns in that area that were annexed byDallas in 1967. The other annexations were Flower Mound, Arlington Heights, Mesquite, and Carrollton. The name "Highland" comes from two sources: 1) a location about twelve miles east of downtown Dallas on Interstate 35W; and 2) a grant from Spain to John C. Hindman in 1836 which included land for a future village near what is now Highland Park. The first recorded settler was James Fenton who arrived in 1839. In 1871 David Ladd purchased 640 acres (2 km²) of Rancho Encinal de las Americas from José Moreno y Luna and built the first white house there. In 1907 Drury Hogg bought 648 acres (2 km²) and established as an Agricultural Experiment Station here with help from J.P Hanna & Co., later becoming Texaco Refining Company before being acquired by Halliburton Corporation in 1978). In 1966 Highland annexation created new subdivisions including Brush Prairie, Deerfield Hills, Trailside Village, Willowbrook Estates and Parkway Villages within the original town boundaries but these have since been absorbed into Highland proper. There are currently over 100 businesses operating within the limits of Highlandtown! The economy of Highland has always been based on agriculture with some processing businesses providing services such as printing and packaging; many residents also work outside the home or at night as long as they can find work because there are no night classes or professional services available to them within commuting distance from their homes or jobsites. Even though most people here live close to their farms or workplaces it still allows for someResidents to enjoy high-quality outdoor recreation opportunities such as fishing, hunting and bird watching while others commute into town for more variety of retail options (including several large shopping malls). Although many people here rely on public transportation service provided by buses/trains/streetcars run by city government agencies like Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), private companies provide similar bus rapid transit services throughout the downtown business district which make it easier for locals to get around without having to leave their communities entirely!

In 1848, Highland also became a town when it was combined with neighboring Springdale and Waco. By 1850, there were over 2,000 residents living in Highland alone. The oil boom hit Highland during the mid-20th century and new businesses began to open up including restaurants, hotels, stores, and churches. However, during World War II many residents served in military service or worked in Production Plants near Dallas-Fort Worth because there was no other place to go. After World War II ended, many people returned to their homes but some continue to live in Highland today as retirees or commuters
