Hurst is a town in Brown County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,571 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Brown County. The history of Hurst begins with John Hurd, who settled here in 1859 after emigrating from Kentucky. He began trading goods with the Comanche and Kiowa Indians and built a log cabin on the present site of Hurst High School in 1865. In 1868, he married Sarah Goodrich and started a general store that still stands today. In 1872, he built the first school building in Brown County and operated it until he sold it tolandown in 1903. At that time, Hurst had one public school; however, it soon became necessary to build two more schools because so many people were moving into the area. One was completed in 1907 and called "Hurst High" after John Hurd's daughter who attended there until her death in 1969; the other was completed in 1912 and called "John Fenton High". Both schools were replaced by new buildings which stand to this day (the old high school building is now used as an apartment complex). After World War II ended, many farmers left their homes for good due to changes within America caused by war-time rationing programs. Many of these men bought land near Hurst and started houses on lots they had acquired. By 1960, when Hurst had only 1,500 residents total (of whom 350 were students), its post office had been closed for more than 20 years! However, through hard work by its citizens over that time period—most notably by Mrs. Lillie Umbley—Hurst has since regained its former stature as a thriving community with over 2 dozen businesses providing services such as plumbing/electrical repair/maintenance or grocery shopping/delivery services within walking distance of most residents' homes! A recent addition to this list areHurston Golf Club which opened its doors to members during early June 2018! The club provides opportunities for golfers of all levels including pros such as David Lynch who played his first major event at age 8!! The club also offers lessons for children up through 9th grade along with recreational activities like fishing & boating etc... There are several annual events throughout December honoring local veterans groups or organizations - examples include Christmas cookies bake sale & New Year's Eve party - These give our community much needed holiday cheer!!! Isabella Dolls Museum open year round In 1916 Hurd founded what is now known as Isabella Dolls Museum which focuses on dolls from around the world including dollhouses made from Burma (Myanmar) and China’s Tang Dynasty era." Today Isabella Dolls Museum features more than 5200 dolls from around the world including some unique items not found anywhere else! Hurst is a small town located in the eastern part of Willis County, Texas, approximately 12 miles (19 km) east of Fort Worth and 16 miles (25 km) south of Waco. The population was 5,326 at the 2000 census. The first settlers in what is now Hurst were farmers who came to the area in 1875. A post office called Hurst had been established in 1878, and until 1907 it was known as Ratcliff. In 1907, the name change was due to an agreement between the towns of Ratcliff and Hurst to switch places on a daily basis so that residents would not have to go back and forth between both towns. In 1898, George Henton built a cotton gin near what is now Hurst. This allowed him to produce more cotton than he could have done from his farm alone. By 1904, many other businesses had been established in or around Hurst- including a general store, bakery, farm implement dealership, hotel/motel, grocery store/grocery mart, lumberyard/shop complex and movie theater. A post office named Willacy was established in 1903 by John Hinton with mail sent from Willacy Creek near present-day Fort Worth. The name changed to Hurtsville after 1909 because much of what is now Thurston County lay within Willacy Township at that time. In 1915 when residential development began coming into fruition around town center off FM 620 Spurlock Road (now US-59), some residents decided that they should move out of their homes since they would be living next door to military units on one side and industrialists on the other side of town square which would become known as “the heart of downtown hursts” during this time period; however most everyone did eventually move into their new homes over time whether they wanted or not given that life wasn’t all about moving for sale at this point in history Instead people lived where they grew up because it felt right for them culturally speaking at least which can be seen throughout today’s community especially with regards to its architecture which features deep roots going back several generations
In 1874, a group of entrepreneurs and farmers in Hurst founded the first oil drillers in Texas. The company was named "Hurst Petroleum" after the town it was located in. The drillers were able to find oil and gas reserves that would later be developed into what is now Midland County. By 1909, there were over 350 businesses Located in Hurst with a population of over 5,000 people.
