Hutto, Texas was originally settled by Texans in the 1870s and there were many businesses that made and sold target holders. Today, Target Holder Manufacturing Company remains a primary supplier to most shooters in the area. The first Hutto-made target holder was designed by G.E. Brownell in 1916. This type of device consisted of a nested platform with two circles on top that could be aimed at with either an open or closed hand (see photo). The use of targets as shooting platforms began to become popularized in Hutto during World War I when soldiers stationed there began using them as their personal training ground for dismounted rifle practice. During Prohibition, target holders became very important to those who enjoyed drinking beer while firing off rounds from rifles outdoors. Many businesses refused to sell alcohol to soldiers despite the fact it was legal under state law. As a result, many individuals turned to targeting devices as their favorite method of enjoying alcoholic beverages without breaking any laws! In 1922, JN & Sons company introduced their first electric-powered target holder which allowed shooters both open and closed hand aiming with ease (see photo). The shooter had to place their hand on top of the plates and hold the rifle so that the target was facing them. Later models added a third plate which could be used as a firing line. The first modern Shooting Target Holder was designed by George Pyne and it consisted of three metal plates that weremounted on a stand. The shooter had to place their hand on top of one of the plates and hold the rifle so that both ends of the target would be facing them simultaneously. Later models allowed users to add an extra plate if they wanted to fire multiple shots at a single target from different distances. Hutto, Texas is a small town located in the county of Hidalgo in the state of Texas. The population was 3,674 at the 2000 census. The name Hutto comes from its location on the banks of the White River, which forms part of the border between Hidalgo and Starr counties. The first settlers in Hutto arrived during 1836. They were led by Colonel James Braidwood and men under his command, who built a cabin on a bluff overlooking the river. In 1840, John Fenton purchased land adjacent to where Hutto now stands from General Antonio López de Santa Anna. Fenton named his new place after Captain George Waring's home near Lexington, Kentucky. The town was founded on July 10, 1845 by about 60 soldiers under Major John Sibley and Captain William Troup as Fort Worth Post No. 2 (later renamed Fort Sam Houston). In 1847, an act was passed authorizing issuance of licenses for general storekeepers and for building stores within two miles of every courthouse seat in Texas. On December 14 of that year, Augustus Saint-Gaudens donated land to Hutto County for use as a jail and court house complex known as "the Square". After being closed for many years because it could not meet necessary specifications due to lack of funds, it reopened in 1895 as courthouse Annex No. 4 with additions such as an auditorium and landscaping designed by Frederick Law Olmsted Associates Ltd., commonly considered to be one of America's most important architectural projects (at $1 million total cost). In 1880s Hutto had no theaters or other public amusements beyond wagon rides through downtown every Thursday afternoon; people there resorted instead to listening to itinerant speakers who would come around town on horseback or wagons drawn by teams attached to poles or carts carrying speech flutes made from cowhide leather set into wooden frames; music typically consisted either locally made bandstands sponsored by local businessmen or performances given at night by traveling minstrelsy groups called "pennies" (a type of stagecoach entertainment). The railroad reached nearby Eagle Pass late in 1887 so that passengers could buy goods at Junction Station before continuing their journey northward via Eagle Pass Road until they reached San Angelo; this increased business opportunities for merchants along Railroad Avenue which became known colloquially as Paxton Street today because early Paxton Plank Road ferryboats used to land there when crossing White River back then
Hutto is a town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,541 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The first settler in Hutto was W. H. Allred who arrived from Arkansas on December 12, 1876. He and his family set up camp on the bank of the Colorado River near what is now Hutto High School. They built a log cabin which still stands today and raised crops and cattle until they were forced to flee following a flood in 1881. After the flood, many settlers journeyed downriver to find land that would not be destroyed by the waters. On February 29, 1882, Prentice Moseley settled at present day Hutto with his wife Alice and their four children: Wm., Alonzo (Alex), Claude (Claudette),and Ida (Ida). The Post Office was established at this location on March 2nd under the name "Hutto". In 1907, A&M University moved its campus from Round Rock to Hutto after purchasing land from local ranchers for $2 per acre ($ in ). In 1911, school began offering evening classes as well as Saturday morning classes starting in fall semester preparatory to opening for university business days on Monday mornings beginning September 15th . In 1922 initial enrollment reached 3200 students with an addition of 350 teachers; by 1930 it had grown to 8000 students with over 500 teachers and an office building . The first female student enrolled at A&M was Ada Laddie White who took courses during summer term 1923-24 .
