Killeen, Texas is a small town located in Central Texas. The population was estimated to be around 50,000 at the time of its incorporation in 1907. Each city council meeting includes public hearings where citizens can discuss issues important to their area including transportation planning, neighborhood improvement projects, or zoning changes. KilleEN also enjoys strong support from businesses which have helped contribute to its economy over the years including Coca Cola Bottling Company (which manufactured ice cream here until 1957), Texaco (whose gas stations were located throughout Killeen until 2002), Continental Airlines (now Delta Airlines), ExxonMobil (the world’s largest oil company until 2007), Ford Motor Company (maker of pickups here until 2006), Midland National Bank (until 2013 an institution specializing in real estate brokerage activities), Pflugerville Independent School District No 2 (until 2018 an educational district serving students in grades 9 through 12) – just to name a few examples!

Killeen, Texas is located in Gregg County, Texas. The community was founded on November 1, 1879 by the combination of two settlements - Killeen and Glen Rose. It became a municipality on July 1, 1915. As of the 2010 census, Killeen had a population of 18,142. The name "Killeen" comes from an early settler's claim to land within the present-day city limits that extended back to central Austin. The name "Glen Rose" refers to a small stream running through the community which residents used for ablution and washing their clothes before entering downtown Austin for business or pleasure. The first permanent settlers in what is now Killeen arrived in 1879 when they started moving westward from Logansport, Indiana via Wacoalibi Ferryboat Landing on the Trinity River. They were led by George Huggins and his brother James Huggins who established a farmstead at Glen Rose near present day Springdale Boulevard and Loop 610 South. On November 1st of that year, George Huggins set out from Glen Rose with his family and other pioneers including five slaves named Johnnie Maultsby (born about 1799), Sally Peeler (born about 1800), Nancy McConnell (born about 1802), Peter Davenport (born about 1800) and David Noland (born about 1785). By this time there were already several settlements established in Gregg County - White Settlement at Richmondtown on the north side of Baylor University campus; Swanton Settlement near Livingston; Clifton Settlement east of Wimberley; Willow Creek Settlement south of Georgetown; and Atherton Station northwest of Waxahachie along the San Antonio Railroad line. This last group had been organized as company town under indenture dated March 3rd, 1863 by Captains John Sayers(Pvt) & Gideon Hull(Ensign) commanding Company L4th US Artillery with orders to establish military stores for subsistence troops garrisoning Fort Sam Houston between Live Oak Creek & San Jacinto Mountains On July 1st 1915 Killeen incorporated as a municipality with a population of 10 people In 1920s two brothers named Floyd and Lamar ran an grocery store called The Grapeseed Store located just north of Main Street across from what is now McDonald's restaurant In 1937 local oilman Harry Crain donated land adjacent to FM 571 to build what became Clearwater Naval Air Station allowing fighter pilots training at NAS Corpus Christi access to airfields close by

However, during the late 20th century Killeen declined as a major manufacturing center due to technological advances that outpaced economic opportunities in new industries such as information technology and renewable energy
