Killeen, Texas is a town in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,671 at the 2010 census. The name comes from "Killie" and "Cooke". Killeen is located in the Cross Timbers region of central Texas. The first people to live here were the Kickapoo Indians who lived along the Brazos River. In 1836, General Canby built Fort Stockton on what is now Main Street in Killeen and named it after himself. The first white settlers arrived in 1839 when John Fenton and his family came from Illinois to homestead near present-day San Antonio. They named their new land Killeen after Killie Creek which they found flowing through their property. In 1840, James Auld founded a wagon factory at what is now downtown Killeen and traded goods with the Indian tribes he traded with along the Brazos River. One of Auld's employees was William Hogg who later became one of America's leading entrepreneurs and ranchers. In 1865, two brothers by the name of Slaughter started trading post near present day Hearn Road in Killeen with traders from Arkansas and Missouri. By 1870, there were over 20 trading posts operating throughout East Texas due to railroads being build through that area including those in Killeen by Jno Epperson Sr., Rufus Dillard & Co., Wm Blythe & Sons (later renamed First Interstate Railway), Wm Crain & Bros., Jno Crain (Jno Ivey)& Son (John Ivey), Geo Ladd & Sons (Geo Ladd), Jno Dillard (Jno Day). These early pioneers had brought agriculture into this area which would soon become an important part of local society as well as economy for many years to come! During World War II there was significant growth here as shipyards were established at Kinney Point Naval Shipyard on Buffalo Bayou adjacent to downtown Killeen and elsewhere across Johnson County while heavy bomber production took place at nearby Amarillo Army Air Force Base which neighbor Redstone Arsenal Federal Military Park east of town on Utopia Parkway! However much of today’s economic development can be traced back to prior eras such as Downtown Merchants Association formed in 1915 which still exists doing business as its original moniker “The merchants cooperative”; creation of city government here dates back to 1919 when Mayor Arthur Sibley convened a meeting among citizens interested in forming an organized government for their community; establishment date for Independent School District #1 – November 12th 1916; City Council Chambers opened January 1st 1922 having been originally space occupied by Masonic Temple; First electric streetlight installed November 10th 1924! Today’s downtown has seen extensive renovation/updating including recent addition/renovation of nearly every major shopping mall within 5 miles radius making it one major retail destination not only for residents but also visitors! With so much going on both inside and outside downtown shops you would think that having your own personal grocery store might have taken center stage but it does not seem that way since most residents rely either on Walmart or Kroger for most itemsexcluding some very popular secondhand stores like Joanne’s Cleaners if need be! Killeen has always been known for its cattle grazing industry although other livestock producing areas exist within close proximity such as Midland where beef cattle are raised alongside horses and hogs; Prestonville where pork products are produced along with appleseed oil used domestically as lubricant etc.; Round Rock situated about 15 miles northwest adjoining Austin proper primarily for corn ethanol production etc.; Pecan Grove about 25 miles southwest adjoining Manorama Parish principally for shellfish harvesting etc.; Rome located southwest bordering Comanche County primarily responsible for pecans grown hereabouts etc.; Hutchinson resides just north of town off I-10 providing eggs/chicken product sales & services plus additional agricultural activities such as hog raising Considerable transportation facilities are available via local highways including FM 651 running northeast-southwest bisected by Main Street serving various needs including access to numerous restaurants, convenience stores (& gas stations) associated with various types businesses locate within walking distance or less than a mile away while continuing onward onto Loop 610 approximately 8 miles long serving all sorts of purposesincluding accessorial retail offerings unique to this small town ie: isolated farmers market occurring weekly complete WITH LOCAL FOODS!!

During World War II, many soldiers were sent into battle with equipment that consisted only of handguns and pistols! By using Scope Mounts (or V-Mounts), they could place their rifles at various points around the battlefield so they could fire accurately from any angle imaginable. This helped make artillery warfare much more efficient and effective than ever before!

The first expandable mounts were developed by General Motors in the early 1990s. They were called "Grommet" mounts, and were designed to attach helicopters or other large items to a car's frame. In 2003, Ford released their own expandable mount system known as the "Ford Connect". The connect system was designed to allow for attachment of different types of devices such as satellite navigation systems, digital cameras, and laptop computers.

The first people to live in what is now Killeen were the Lipan Apache (who may have been ancestors of the current Pecos Apache). In 1836–37, Mexican Rangers led by Captain Antonio Armijo destroyed the Lipan Apache village near today's Killeen after raiding their homes for food. In 1865, General William Tecumseh Sherman's forces besieged Democrat John Boggs' cavalry brigade at Cedar Creek during his Overland Campaign in Texas. After days of heavy fighting, Union troops overran Boggs' position and captured most of his force including all but one cannon. This event is sometimes considered to be the beginning of Wichita Falls’ oil industry. In 1872 Charles Goodyear established Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in downtown Wichita Falls; it became one of America's largest tire companies before merging with rival Firestone Tire & Rubber Company in 1984. Many local businesses continued to operate until 2001 when ConocoPhillipsTexaco merged with Phillips 66 When Interstate 20 was built through central Texas in the early 1960s traffic increased along its alignment through town centers like Wichita Falls and Fort Worth while residents abandoned their properties en masse moving into new subdivisions or rural areas east or west of I-20 (known locally as "The Ring"). One result was that many historic buildings were lost or ruined during this time period including some sawmills dating back to 1860 which were still standing when I-20 arrived (see Cedar Creek SAWMILLS). Today only a few remnants remain from this time period including an old concrete mixer still visible from its original location next to I-20 between US 30 and FM 527
