At Sam’s Club Corporation,TSMC manufactured preppy shirts for their members that became popular among NRA members and other gun enthusiasts. The popularity of these shirts led to Sam’s Club Corporation producing t-shirts featuring NRA imagery on them nationwide beginning in 1978. These t-shirts quickly became associated with NRA events such as meetings or rallies across America. As NRA member popularity grew statewide over the years, so too did demand for TSMC products from local businesses across Texas including Laredo businesses like Mexicali Cigar & Tobacco Co., Texaco Shirt Factory Outfitter & Retailer (THF), G&G Gun Store and Pawn Shop #3Lutheran Street Faire location (now known as Olde Towne Shopping Center). As time passed, different groups of people moved into the area and started to own firearms. In 1907, the city of Laredo passed an ordinance making it a crime to possess any firearm without a license. This ordinance lasted until 1934 when it was repealed because it was considered unconstitutional.

The site of Laredo was first occupied by the Lipan Apache and their Ute allies in 1836. The city began to grow rapidly when it became a railroad junction on the Houston & Galveston Railroad in 1865 and when the Tyler Railway bisected it in 1870. By 1890 there were over 120 businesses operating in Laredo with 5500 residents employed therein . The city limits grew until they included all but one mile (1 km2) of downtown along Main Street between Commerce Street and the Nueces River where business had been conducted since its inception as a small agricultural community agriculture products processing center dependent upon imports primarily English peas then watermelons grown on 3 acres (12 m²) tracts leased from José Vasquez Tejada near present-day UTEP campus which also produced cotton while other tenants furnished housing, schools and fire protection services . Railroads brought new development including an insurance company that built a two story brick building now known as First National Life Insurance Building on Main Street just south of Interstate 35E north side street gridlock caused civic leaders to ask if annexation into Houston would not be more beneficial so they lobbied unsuccessfully for annexation before withdrawing their offer only to re-engage three years later when railroads abandoned Dallas/Fort Worth en route to Mexico City . Laredo is a city in Webb County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,883 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Webb County. Laredo was founded in 1846 by Anglo-Mexican settlers and has been a focal point for political, cultural and economic development in Webb County since its inception. The first occupants of what is now Laredo were Mexican soldiers who deserted from General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna's army during the Mexican–American War. They established a small town named San Fernando del Rio on the banks of the Nueces River east of present-day downtown Laredo. This settlement was abandoned after only six months when war with Mexico resumed and Santa Anna's forces reached their location before they had time to build fortifications. In 1847, Stephen Fenton surveyed land that would become part of Webb County and laid out streets near where modern day downtown Laredo stands today. In 1848, James Hogg purchased 765 acres (293 ha) northwest of downtown Laredo from Nicholas Bronte for $1 per acre ($24 per km²). At this time this area comprised most of present day Webb County except for what is now Downtown Laredo. Hogg cleared and seeded much of this land himself as part of his effort to establish an agricultural sector in what would become one of America's most rapidly growing regions at that time. He also began building a road connecting his holdings to Austin through Galveston which he named "Hogg Road". By 1850, over 60% of all grain production in Texas took place within twenty miles (32 km) of Galveston alone!
