During Reconstruction period (1868-1877), many men from Leander enlisted as Union Soldiers or joined local militias during the war years; these soldiers left behind businesses that thrived after their return home. After Reconstruction ended following the Civil War, many men returned to their homes and businesses but not all did so successfully; some failed because of lack of capital or management skills while others lost out due to competition from new arrivals such as ranching interests which became more pervasive afterTexas achieved its statehood in 1907.. In 1870s Sherman Price developed what would become Price's Store on Main Street which served as one of two general stores open for business around town; later both stores closed but Price's Store still stands today next door to IHOP restaurant that opened adjacent property in 2000). In 1893 Laddie Hagin founded her Ladies Auxiliary Band which played at various civic events including First Baptist Church services; band concerts continued into the 1920s with members also playing at fairs and other events throughout the community until disbanded by 1949 when Mrs. Hagin sold her interest in organization to another member who operated it until 1986 when it merged with another lady auxiliary band formed about 1940 by Mrs...
