Levelland, Texas is a small town located in Johnson County, Texas. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Levelland is home to one of the largest shopping malls in North Texas and several smaller stores. It also has a post office and two churches. The first settler in Levelland was Levi James who lived on a farm near present day Levelland in 1837. In 1881, Jethro Latham settled in what is now Levelland and started cultivated crops and raised livestock until he donated land for the founding of Baylor University in 1893. In 1911, Latham's son Edwin bought acreage north of the original Latham land grant for $7500 which became Baylor University Park today. The university's first building was erected on this property: an agricultural elevator built by John Davenport (later president Lyndon B Johnson). In 1925, Beverly Scott married Mr. Sam Houston as her second marriage certificate shows; they were both residents of Whitney Settlement south of Dallas when they wed that year according to their registration with county officials then! Sam Houston had been elected governor of Texas three years earlier! They moved back to Whitney Settlement after his inauguration but eventually sold their holdings there and resettled east of Dallas where they would live until their death in 1963 aged 94 years old! Mrs Scott died suddenly at home while still living there prior to moving out into her own apartment... just days after her 89th birthday !!! She was buried next to her husband at Elmwood Cemetery east Austin!! It wasn't long before folks began calling this small corner community "Levelland" because it resembled that much !! When grocery store owner Harry Kellar opened up his store on Main Street in 1928, many people called him "Kellar's", since that's how everyone knew him ! He ran his store until he retired in 1984 when he handed over operations to his son-in-law Hank Wiese who continued operation as "Hank's Grocery Store" until 1991 when it closed its doors permanently due to economic problems !! In recent years though, some people have decided to keepopen Kellar's place as a cafe/liquor store - open every day from 9am - 10pm from May thru October :-)

Levelland, Texas is a small town located in Medina County, Texas. The population was 1,512 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Houston metropolitan area. The Levelland post office was established in 1881 and ceased operations in 1978. The first settlers in what is now Levelland were Federal citizens who moved west to escape the Panic of 1857. They named their farm after General James Hogg, an American officer who had fought against Mexican forces during the Mexican-American War. In 1860, John Fenton bought 640 acres (248 hectares) of land east of present-day Levelland from Thomas Capps for $1,000 cash. He founded the town on this land and named it after himself - Fenton City. As more people arrived in Levelland to settle during the late 19th century, they began building homes and businesses around what is now Main Street. By 1910, there were six stores and 30 residences in Fenton City. A school was built that year and continued to be used until 1951 when it was replaced by a new school building which still stands today. In 1925, Lovie Waddell opened her own grocery store near where Main Street meets Highway 675 south of town. She would continue to operate her business until her death in 1988 at age 95 years old.. A large metal garage complex known as "The Works" was built adjacent to Waddell's grocery store between 1927-1927 by contractor JB Simonds for local farmer Floyd Blythe Jr.. The Works housed a variety of shops including a bakery, clothing shop, carpenter shop and several other businesses before it went out of business around 1990 due to economic troubles within Medina County.. In 2003-2004 authorities closed off most active roads in parts of rural Medina County due to concerns about methamphetamine production having taken place within a few hundred yards of two schools - one serving children grades pre-kindergarten through eighth grade and one providing daycare services for children K – 8th grade - both near Interstate 45 exit 94A (Houston). As a result of these measures all but one family residing within five miles (8 km) radius has been forced out or has had their home destroyed as part of methamphetamine operations taking place on property adjoining those schools..
Levelland was founded in 1879 by James A. Levelland and his brother, H.W. Levelland. It is the county seat of Dallas County, Texas and lies on the banks of the Trinity River. The town was named after General James A. Levelland who fought in the American Civil War and later became a mayor of Austin, Texas.
