Captain John Milburn is credited with developing Little Elm as an agricultural center for Hudspeth County after moving his family there from Illinois in 1875. He also played an important role in helping to boundary Hudspeth County into present-day Texas when he donated land near modern-day Springdale for government use. Sarah Milburn served as captain of Houston's first fire department before coming to live in Little Elm with her husband in 1876. She later became involved with various local charities and served as president of what is now called River Oaks Presbyterian Church outside of LittleElm Village Boardwalk Hall complex until her death in 1955. Mrs. Milburn was one of only a few women ever elected as members of any municipal body within Texas at that time (the others being Alice Robertson). As part of her service on River Oaks Presbyterian Church board, Mrs. Milburn helped develop plans for construction Of The First Baptist Church which would become known as Christ United Methodist Episcopal Zion Chapel today inside LittleElm Village Hall Complex - one block south of Interstate 10 across from Edwards Air Force Base where U2 guitarist Bono currently resides! The Little Elm community in Texas was founded by Scots-Irish settlers in the 1830s. The area now known as Little Elm was part of the Mexican province of Nuevo León. In 1836, Texas became an American state, and Little Elm became a part of the new state. The community experienced growth during the 1840s and 1850s, when it began to emerge as a significant center for cotton farming and cattle ranching. By 1860, Little Elm had become a small town with a population of around 100 people. However, its importance increased after the Civil War when railways arrived in the region and began transporting goods north from Mexico.Little Elm experienced another period of growth during Reconstruction time in the 1870s and 1880s.
