It lies about 20 miles northwest of Wichita Falls and about 25 miles northeast of Amarillo. The town is named after Colonel John Lockhart who settled there in 1881. The first settlers to the area were farmers and their families who arrived around 1881. By 1915, the population had grown to over 1,000 people. Lockhart has been a thriving community for many years and its economy depends on agriculture, manufacturing and trade unions which have left an impact on the community's social fabric. Lockhart is home to several churches including First Baptist Church (founded in 1901), United Methodist Church (founded in 1911), Presbyterian Church (1897), Methodist Episcopal Zion church ( founded 1903) and African American Pentecostal church (founded 1942). In addition to these religious institutions, Lockhart also has two schools: Lockhart-Ladd Intermediate School which opened in 1951 and Lockhart High School which opened in 1957. Since its founding,lockhart has seen some significant changes bothphysically and socio-culturally. One such change that took place was when Interstate I-30 was constructed just outside of the town limits in 1958; this led to increased traffic congestion within lockhart as well as Exit 342 being renamed "I-30/Highway 191" with limited access from either direction allowing only local residents access to essential goods & services within the small town limits while motorists passed by without interruption or notification。

Lockhart, Texas is a small town located in Webb County, Texas, United States. It was founded in 1879 by John H. Lockhart and his family. The town has a population of about 1,000 people. The community is known for its agriculture and livestock industry. The first settlers in Lockhart were John H. Lockhart and his wife Fanny Smith-Lockhart. They arrived from Illinois in 1879 and started a farm on the east side of the creek that later became Crystal Creek Road. In 1886, they moved to the west side of the creek where they founded their second farm which still stands today as Prune Lane Drive. In 1907, Mrs. Lockhart died suddenly while giving birth to their third child and John H., Jr., took over running the farm with his father's help until he died in 1923 at the age of 82 years old. John H.'s widow Fanny continued to run the home until her death in 1951 when it was sold to Clyde Goode who operated it until 1984 when it was transferred to current owner Brent Lunsford who operates it currently as a museum/theme park with rides, exhibits,an agricultural Simulator field house used during World War II (the only one remaining from that time),and a bungalow used by Lamar Hunt for hunting trips during his childhood days in lockhart
Lockhart, Texas is a town in the U.S. state of Texas, located in East Texan County. The population was 3,868 at the 2010 census. The town was founded by Royal Hogg and named for him after Lockhart County, Virginia, his birthplace. The first post office in Lockhart opened on March 15, 1871. It was renamed to Lockhart on November 17 of that year in honor of then-Governor James Fenton Lockhart. In 1893, the town had a population of only eighty-six because most of its residents were farmers who couldn't afford to move away from their homes due to high freight rates caused by railroads cutting through their land. In 1915, World War I veteran Captain John Dickson Key started a munitions manufacturing company which became one of the largest employers in the community and helped make it an important cultural center during this time period for Texans and others from all over the United States; he remains an honored member of the community today. The first school in Lockhart opened on December 12th, 1898 with just four students and served until 1902 when construction began on what would become Riverview Elementary School; it reopened on October 1st 1903 with seventy five students grades PreK-8th grade combined; it closed again in 1951 due to budget cuts but reopened as Riverview Junior High School effective September 1st 1953 before becoming Riverview High School effective September 1st 1957 after merging with nearby Lamar High School; both schools are now part of Dickinson Consolidated Independent School District #122
