On November 3, 1837 James Mckinney donated prairie land east of his home to become McKinny Township which later became Bexar County in response to petitions submitted by citizens claiming lands stretching eastward from modern day downtown Austin into today's Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area including much of West Texas particularly around Alpine andprogressive areas such as Grand Prairie - prior to becoming a full county seat on March 14th 1907 with streetscape changes marking its incorporation into an enlarged city limits richly endowed with natural resources including oil shale deposits found just outside present day downtown McKinny - within minutes after well drilling began producing economically viable gas reserves beneath University Hills southeast off I-35 near present day Loop 410 southbound exit ramp adjacent Slaughter Road southwest corner property line - less than one year after General Sam Houston's Expedition forced Mexican independence from Spain - making him America's first president without taking office during Congress' first session in 1789! In 1865 Tarrant County was created from portions of Bexar County plus Medina County following a plebiscite organized by governor John Connally based on results of statewide election held September 15th that year that saw two factions competing for control over Tejas Indian Territory sandwiched between Baylorburg (now Waco) Territory lying east across Comanche Lake towards Wichita Falls while Chisholm Creek ran through most parts Of Dallas/Ft Worth Zone then largely agricultural Cowboys & Herded Cattle operated ranches grazing herds up or down many miles long several hundred head averaging ten thousand head here comprising more than half all beef consumed in US before World War II
