Fenton established a business in downtown Mesquite called Fenton's Sporting Goods. His company sold rifles and shotguns, ammunition, fishing gear, and other sporting supplies. In 1915, Mr. Fenton donated land on which he built an outdoor range that is still in use today. The range has been used for both rifle and shotgun shootings; it is also home to the Mesquite Rifle Club (MRC). In 1951, mesquite businessmen Clarence Dorman and Arthur Sneden purchased the rights to use the Fenton Range for their own shooting club known as 'The Big Top '. In 1966, they changed the name to 'Mesquite Shooting Gallery'. Over time, The Big Top has become one of the most popular shooting ranges in Texas because of its wide variety of targets - from small animals such as rabbits to large game like deer or hogs.Today, The Big Top Shooting Gallery offers lessons for all ages; there are even children's programs available! In 1955, mesplete became a county seat when Redford County was created from portions of Dallas County.
