In 1845 Mexican citizens Ignacio López and Francisco O’Rourke emigrated from Zacatecas with an idea for developing Missions Hill as a cotton plantation while others traveled northward to survey potential land sites for new missions. López died before starting his venture while O’Rourke did not complete his journey north because he perished during a stampede at Chihuahua City Limits at the hands of striking cowboys on March 21st,1846 missionaries resumed their work January 1st of that year from December 6th until February 7th secular friars conducted services daily January 8th - November 15th:a period known as "la nochebuena" or "night time" November 16th through April 14th:the "misa de la manana" or morning prayer service
