BY 1850 THE BUSINESS HAD GOWN INTO A PROFITABLE COMPANY AND JOHN MURPHY REALIZED THAT HIS STORE WAS REALLY AN IMPORTANT STOP ON THE TRAVELING INDUSTRY!]] It might be noted that prior to this time there had been several local post offices located around Lubbocks prominent citizens such as Judge George Prentice who served from 1796 until his death in 1868.]] It should also be mentioned that Ulysses S Grant visited Texas twice during his presidency – once in December 1861 while visiting San Antonio before continuing onto New Orleans for Christmas – after which he ordered all United States military posts throughout Texas closed so that troops could parade through downtown streets under Confederate flags!]] AsMail Delivery Service began delivering mail east from White Sands Rancho de los Tiros starting February 15th 1870!!!
