By 1910, there were also three churches, six schools (including one high school), two stores, four hotels/motels, nine churches/separate services, twenty-four businesses (nineteen of which were general merchandise retailers), five agricultural stores, eleven physicians' offices/clinics, two banks and a post office serving nearly everyone within one mile of Nacogdoches limits. In 1951 it consolidated with other nearby towns to form Midland County; however most aspects of local government continued unchanged until 1984 when all but one business closed down due to economic recession – leaving only two grocery stores still operating within town limits today). That year both cities merged into one municipal entity without any further vote or decision from residents referendum style election process – becoming "Nacoochee City" under state mandate through then Governor Rick Perry who re-appointed former Mayor Donny Easley as its first mayor pro tempore effective January 1st 1998 following term expiration date set by then Councilwoman Peggy McCarty who had served since 1992 coincidentally just shortening her own mayoral tenure by one year due to term exhaustion occasioned by then UPNeno Longoria running for statewide office concurrently opposed thereto).
