The history of firearms in Nacogdoches, Texas goes back to the late 1800s. At that time, handguns were the common way to transportation ammunition and were also used for hunting. In 1907, a group of men from Nacogdoches formed the Nacogdoches Rifle Club and began buying and selling rifles. They soon realized that they needed a place to store their firearms, so they bought a building on what is now East Market Street. The rifle club continued to use the building until it was destroyed by fire in 1954. In 1957, the Nacogdoches Rifle Club moved again when they purchased a second building on West Broadway Street. This time, they kept their weapons inside the building while it was being used as a storage facility. The rifle club continued to use West Broadway Street until it was destroyed by fire in 1978. In 1998, the Nacogdoches Rifle Club sold their last property on West Broadway Street and disbanded. However, there still remains evidence of this past activity in Nacogdoches with remnants of buildings still standing today including the original rifle clubhouse on East Market Street which is now open to visitors for tours every Saturday from 9am-12pm during summer months.

Nacogdoches, Texas is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas that has served as the county seat for Nacogdoches County since 1876. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census.[2] It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what is now Nacogdoches County was James Kenedy who arrived in 1836 and named it after his native Ireland. In 1837, Stephen Fenton founded an adobe two-story house on the banks of Buffalo Bayou near present-day Waco,Texas as a fur trading post[3]. After Fenton's death in 1840, his son John A.Fenton took over his father's business and also became a cattle rancher. In 1846, following Mexico's independence from Spain, President James Kenedy signed an act that created Nacogdoches County and divided it between Starr County to the north and Longview County to the south (the exact location is unknown). The original courthouse was located on present day US 281/US 90 west of downtown Nacogdoches[4]. The oil industry soon began to grow in eastern Texas thanks to Rockefeller Oil Company founder John D. Rockefeller Sr.'s efforts; however, due to a lack of infrastructure and resources,[5][6], oil production did not reach its full potential until later decades. In 1947,[7] ExxonMobil purchased all remaining shares in Rockefeller's oil company for $1 million dollars ($18 million adjusted today). Prior to this purchase, Exxon had been only interested in finding natural gas reserves offshore rather than developing oil production procedures on land. In 1951,[8] Nacogdoche voters selected Drury Ladd as their new county judge after he won election as a Democrat against three incumbent Republicans; Ladd would serve until 1978 when he ran unsuccessfully for reelection as county judge again with no success[9]. On July 5th 1958,[10] most likely due to concerns about nuclear testing taking place nearby during those years ( Operation Iceberg), Congressman Lloyd Bentsen announced that he would not seek re-election because he believed Texas needed more government jobs than federal stimulus programs were providing.[11] This made history because up until then all statewide offices had been filled by Texans regardless of party affiliation - something which continued through much of George W Bush’s time as Governor (2002-2007).[12][13][14][15][16][17]) However, due largely to Bentsen’s decision political parties were redefined throughout much of TX during this time period with many positions becoming open only to Democrats or independents while Republican incumbents retained numerous office including Attorney General, State Senator etc.; making it difficult for any statewide candidate without party affiliation to achieve success beyond running against popular incumbent lawmakers
Nacogdoches, Texas is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 24,814 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Tarrant County. Nacogdoches was founded in 1876 and named for General Order No. 5 of November 25, 1875 issued by the Confederate Congress to commemorate the Battle of Nacogdoches (October 10-11, 1875), which ended a three-month siege by Union forces on November 15.
