A good barrel must have a smooth surface so that the projectile can travel freely while exiting the muzzle and also have a low profile so that it does not add unnecessary weight or bulk to the gun. It should also be resistant to damage caused by rounds passing through it (such as bullet impact). The type of finish used on the barrel also affects its performance - oiled barrels tend to produce less noise than polished barrels while stainless steel has many times been found to produce more accurate firearm rounds even at close range. Nacogdoches is a city in Starr County, Texas, United States. The population was 6,444 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Starr County. The settlement of Nacogdoches began as an agricultural community in 1872 on the banks of the Nacoochee River. A small post office was established there in 1875 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. A new post office was opened at Nacogdoches on November 15, 1907, by order of President Theodore Roosevelt. The town site had been chosen because its location on high ground made it difficult for floodwaters to enter and damage buildings within range of future natural disasters. In 1912, John Huddleston built a sawmill and gristmill near what is now downtown Nacogdoches. In 1915, Harry Crouch erected a large frame courthouse which still stands today. It served as the county seat from 1912 to 1925 and again from 1929 to 1951 inclusive; during this time it also housed the administration building for Starr County government separate from any other structure within town limits. A second courthouse was erected soon afterward (1916) by contractor Waddell Hurt Jr., but it too failed to meet local standards for functionality and was replaced by a more modern building in 1928-29 after several arson fires gutted its predecessor; both buildings are still standing today flanking Main Street inside town limits. In 1954-55 two cotton gins were located just east of downtown Nacogdoches along present day US 69/20; these operations were eventually closed due to competition from more efficient ginning plants moving into the area during that period although some evidence suggests they may have continuedOperating until around 2006 when they apparently went out of business entirely!
