Orange is a town in Tyler County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tyler–Brownsville metropolitan area. The name "Orange" comes from the Spanish word "orña". The first white people to inhabit what is now Orange were settlers named John and Sarah Whitehead who came in 1827 from Kentucky. In 1830, they organized a Methodist church in Orange and named it First Baptist Church. The first school was built on the current site of City Hall in 1832 by Rev. Drury and Mrs. Clendenning. A post office opened in that year under the name of Orangeburg with two other towns soon joining it- First Colony (1834) and Second Colony (1835). In 1840, land was acquired by George Waddell for $4 per acre which he donated to Tyler County as its new courthouse square after his death. He had been married to Anna Lubbock, daughter of Governor James Polk of Texas. In 1845, Waddell's widow sold her share of their property for $10 per acre to John Nance who founded Nance & Company mercantile store at Depot Square on E Houston Street near today's Farmers Market Place downtown; it still operates as a business today although portions have been torn down to make way for urban development over the years Waddell's original courthouse building still stands on Elm Street just east of Railroad Avenue some distance southeast of present day City Hall across Depot Square from Nance & Company Mercantile Store dating back to 1840 - one block north of where present day Cemetery Drive meets Railroad Avenue

On October 3rd, 1802 they named a small parcel of land on what's now Cottonwood Road north of present day Grapevine for José de la Vega y Escobar because he had discovered a new route to California from Mexico City via Austinheath (& current day Grapevine). The spot where Cottonwood Road currently stands was once part of Ixalan Creek which flowed through what are now Arlington Heights, Flower Mound and Mesquite before it diverted into its current course about two miles east of its original location just south of I-30 & US 290. In 1835, James Fenton established Fort Worth byfortifying an existing post on San Antonio River opposite modern day Richardson Rancho Woods outside today's Irvington or Irving Park neighborhoods near downtown Fort Worth. By 1840 citrus groves had been established scattered throughout northeastern Travis County along Clear Fork Creek between Fredericksburg & Round Rock; these were later moved to their current locations around Cedar Hill (or Cedar Springs) west sideributaries flowing through Dripping Springs & Montgomery County within today’s Garland Hills neighborhood inside GreaterDallas limits – making Orange history by being first citrus orchard to be planted within GreaterDallas boundaries! In 1850 David Lubbock became owner/operatorof Waxahachie cotton gin on property northeast corner Robert Owen Drive at present day Hwy 181st Street North next door to White Sands Missile Range – setting off a long term business relationship that continues to this day! Finally during World War II auxiliary forces Commander Red Snider Headquarters command post operating out buildings at Vintage Motels on Elm Street adjacent KRLD Radio Station WBBM which helped keep Dallas German POW’s entertained until liberated! Following World War II many families left Fort Worth for new homes in the Houston metropolitan area but many people decided to stay put and continue operating local businesses such as Lubbock Cotton Gin & Supply Co., David Lubbock Cotton Gin Co., JF Ford Parts Inc., etc.? Many residents kept their ties close proximity with friends down home thru family gatherings like Christmas parties - something that still happens annually missing only picnics!! This traditional hospitality has made Orange one helluva place for locals and visitors alike when hosting events like Corpus Christi chili cookoffs or Highland Games!!!
