Pampa is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,906 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in Pampa were the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Trail immigrants who came through here in 1848. They were followed by other groups such as the pioneers from Arkansas and Missouri who arrived in 1855. In 1873, Pampa was founded as a trading post by Hosea Jenkins and his family on the edge of what is now Wichita Falls. In 1907, it became an independent municipality with a Mayor/Council form of government. The first school opened in 1915 teaching grades one through twelve. One hundred years later on July 1st, 2018 Pampa’s centennial year all activities will come to a close with no plans for re-opening until 2027! As one of only two towns remaining unincorporated within Hudspeth County after 2006 when county lines were redrawn following the creation of McLennan County (which included Wichita Falls), Pampa has enjoyed some degree of autonomy even though not much has changed since then other than annexation by McLennan County in 2011 which made it even more autonomous still!
