The town was home to two major ammunition manufacturers: Samuel Colt’s Manufacturing Company and Winchester Repeating Arms Company. In 1941, Red Oak became home to America’s first military ammo factory when radar manufacturer Bell Aircraft Corporation hired local resident Jensenges Ziegler to design a new propelling gas cartridge that could be used on bombers. The resulting projectile was called “ZigBee” after Ziegler’s daughter (now wife). Since 2002, Red Oak has been home to world champion rifle shooter Todd Wohlgemuth. Wohlgemuth is considered one of the greatest shooters in history, having won more than 20 national titles including three Meijer Rifle Championships and four Olympic Games gold medals. His livelihood comes from his passion for shooting sports – he regularly competes in sanctioned matches around the country. His community involvement includes serving on numerous boards including those responsible for creating ordinances related to firearms regulation in Red Oak County

In 1856-57 when Jimmie Epps served as sheriff of Collin County he took up residence near where Main Street meets Faulkner Road today and built a cabin there also which still stands today! This structure still serves as the local government building for Red Oak today! After purchasing this property from Epps’ heirs it became municipally owned by voters through annexation on March 6th 1912! At that time it also became known as “Faulkner” due to its location adjacent to ranch holdings of Jock Faulkner! Hurdles were placed during this period with annexation including land acquisition along Clear Fork Creek resulting in much controversy but ultimately incorporation without objection occurred on November 3rd 1913!!! On December 6th 1916 residents voted overwhelmingly thirty two to one towards incorporation into Dallas city limits!!!!! From then until present day all citizens have enjoyed unbridled democracy with virtually no taxation levied against them!!!!!!

In 1885, Waddell organized what would become known as The Independent Cotton Growers Association (ICGA) and erected an office building on State Street near today's First Baptist Church.
