Gun targets had a long and varied history in Richmond, Texas. The first target was erected on the east side of town in 1881. By 1907, there were six guns available for use at the local gun range. In 1924, the first rifle range opened in town and continued to be used until 1978. From 1909-1978, Richmond was home to one of the most popular rifle ranges in Texas with over 1,000 shooters attending monthly shoots. In 1951, an all steel target began being used at the range and has been continuously used since then. Richmond, Texas is a city located in the U.S. state of Texas and is the seat of Richmond County. The population was 1,342 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The first European settlers in what would become Richmond were French colonists who arrived in 1736 and named it after their Royal Governor, Louis-Jacques Cartier. In 1836, James Kenedy founded the City of Austin to serve as its municipal center and served as its representative on various local councils and boards throughout his lifetime. By 1846, Austin had outgrown Richmond's growing population so Kenedy decisions made by city administrators to annex additional land east of I-35 (now known as North Central Expressway) led to increased growth around South Lamar Boulevard in downtown Austin and then along East Side Road past Fredericksburg until finally annexing much of what became Richmond on November 3, 1848. This event marked the end of Anglooustownership in Travis County and also brought about most African American residents into this newly formed county which at that time was considered part of Mexican America due to slave trade activities taking place within that region during this period The town originally grew around two sugar plantations: Baylor Mann & Co., run by Sam Houston from 1800-1859; later renamed Riceville Plantation after Wm. Rice (1800-1892), one of Houston's partners; and Robertson Place, founded by James Robertson in 1849 but abandoned soon thereafter because there was little demand for sugar cane thereabouts In addition to these agricultural endeavors nearby small businesses sprang up such as a blacksmith shop operated by John Hoggon near University Avenue and Patton Street from 1851 until his death in 1865; a livery stable known as Hermitage House operated from bales left over from previous seasons between 1850-64 behind Fifth Street between San Jacinto Boulevard/Alamo Drive/Texas Highway 183; an initial grocery store owned by Moses Brown opened in 1865 on Commerce Street across from Fort Bend Female Seminary just southwest of downtown A millinery business started off operations at 221 E 11th St with five employees (a woman named Sarah Beasley being one employee) 1860-65 before moving uptown to 19th St 1960s Richmond experienced many changes following annexation including becoming a streetcar suburb with numerous new housing developments built during this time including Gassaway Mansion near Lamar Boulevard which still stands today having been completely renovated between 2007-2009 thanks to funding provided through Mayor Annise Parker's Department Of Housing Preservation And Development initiative Another major change occurred when Interstate 35 was constructed running through downtown Kingman instead providing access only southwest whereupon all commercial development ended abruptly leaving only single family homes remaining gentrifiedizzyada
