Robinson, Texas is a small town located in theMidland County area of Texas. The population was 7,811 as of the 2010 census. The name is derived from "Robinson's Creek" which flows through the town. The first settlers in Robinson were two brothers named John and James Robinson who arrived in 1827. They started a cotton plantation and soon after built a log cabin. In 1830, they had four children: Sarah, Rebecca, Josephine, and Samuel. The family moved to a new home in 1835 on acreage donated by Joshua Frye. There they raised six children until 1840 when they sold their land to John Pemberton for $2 per acre ($40 total). In 1845, five-year-old Samuel was accidentally killed playing nearby when his father shot an animal with his rifle while he was hoeing corn at the farmhouse; this event became known as "Samuel's Mill". During the American Civil War (1861-1865), Robinson served as a post office and saw action on various battlefields such as Antietam and Gettysburg.
