Sachse is located on FM 971 north-northwest of Wichita Falls and east of Amarillo. The village of Sachse was founded by German immigrants in 1867 as a farming community named "Hansa." In 1902, it became the site of a large cotton gin and mill complex that employed 600 workers. The plant closed in 1966 and the buildings were used for storage until 1991 when they were condemned as unsafe and fell into disrepair. A group of local citizens raised enough money to purchase them and rehabilitate them into apartments and business properties. They now house more than 100 tenants including 10 elementary schools, an Adventist church, a library, two nightclubs, one hospital, four restaurants/bars/cafés, three churches (two Baptist and one Methodist), two post offices (one ZIP code 78112 serves both villages), a doctor's office (the first in Kansas City since 1978), and two health clubs. In 2006-2007 Sachse received $2 million from state government incentives for economic development which will provide up to $5 million over five years for new businesses to open in the community with an emphasis on energy efficiency upgrades such as solar panels and wind turbines. The Village has also partnered with several private companies through its Community Development Initiative program to bring new jobs or expand existing businesses within the village limits; these have included: home construction company Empire Excavating & Demolition; truck dealership Cargurus; digital media company KCTV 5 TV station; hair salon Salon Toni&Guy; pet groomer Allie's Kennels Inc.; tire installer Continental Tire & Rubber Company;;
