During Reconstruction following Reconstruction Era (1877-1912), efforts were made by both Democrats and Republicans to revive downtown San Antonio as a local business district known as "The Rotunda." However, little success was achieved until 1906 when Mayor William McKinley persuaded City Councilman George Wickersham to start construction on Market Street between Hyde Park Boulevard and Interstate 10;[1] thus initiating one ofSAN ANTONIO'S most iconic landmarks: The rotunda which still houses municipal government offices today! In 1916 SAN ANTONIO received its first electric light bulb from New York City Edison Company through US war bond campaign.[2] This event signaled beginning of heavy industrialization along with dramatic population growth that continues up until present day – all while maintaining significant levels OF cultural heritage preserved within municipality boundaries!
