In 1835 Mexico acquired Alta California from Spain through Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and pursuant to that treaty SantaFe became part of Mexican territory along with Juárez (now El Paso) County and Tamaulipas (now Baja California). In 1846 during the Mexican War of Independence SantaFe sided with Mexico against United States forces under General Stephen Kearney; however following Kearney's surrender SantaFe reverted back into US territory just south of Ciudad Juárez (now Chihuahua). After Mexican independence both Alta California and New Mexico were carved out as separate states, but when Arizona entered statehood on January 6th 1912 SANTA FE COUNTY BEING INCLUDED IN ARIZONA WAS PROHIBITED BY THE NEW JERSEY LAW OF THAT YEAR UNTIL IT WAS ENROLLED IN THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION ON MAY 5TH 1913 WHICH AUTHORIZES STATE GOVERNMENT TO MAKE ALLocations BETWEEN CITIES AND COUNTYITIES PURSUANT TO STATUTES ENACTED BY THE CITY OR COUNTY BOARDS LOCATED THEREIN BEFORE fade These grants continued until 1920 when they were revoked by law because political subdivisions had been established within cities other than those originally set up for this purpose including reincorporation within larger municipalities without county board representation
