As the world’s largest concentration of red dot sight installations, Seagoville, Texas offers an interesting perspective on red dot sight history. In addition to hosting American Red Dot Association (ARDA) meetings and demonstrating rifles at the annual NRA SHOT Show, Seagoville is also home to the only privately-owned firearm range in the area. The property was acquired in 1978 by former Seagoville Mayor Don A. Haney and his wife Pat. Today, ARDA members from all over the US can use the range for target shooting, pistol training, and rifle competition. In 1950, a group of engineers working for Raytheon Laboratories developed what would become known as theRed Dot Sight. The device consisted of a small mirrorlike lens attached to a white housing that projected an image onto a black background. When aimed at an object such as a target or soldier in combat, this type of sight allowed soldiers to see targets without having to look down at their weapon or ammunition magazines
Red dot sights are a type of sighting system that allow the user to aim and fire projectiles with pinpoint accuracy. This is possible through the use of a red dot sight, as opposed to traditional sights which have a magnification range. Red dot sights also offer an increased color contrast which allows users to better see target images in low light conditions. Additionally, red dots tend to be less likely to ding or scuff their receivers, making them ideal for rifles that come with aftermarket parts.
Since the invention of the red dot sight, Seagoville, Texas has had a strong interest in purchasing and using them. Over the years, there have been several variants of this type of sighting device.
Seagoville is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,703 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Brazos River and is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The name Seagoville comes from Spanish meaning "shore" or "promenade". The first settlers in what is now Seagoville were white men who fled a slave-owners' rebellion in 1849. They named their town after General James Pemberton (1784-1847), who had fought with Mexico against Spain in 1813 during the Mexican War of Independence. In 1872, Seagoville became a station on the Central Texas Railway and soon became known as one of its busiest towns because it served as a transportation hub for goods arriving from nearby Austin and San Antonio. In 1915, when the railroad was acquired by the Union Pacific Railroad, Seagoville's post office moved to new quarters at 5100 FM 620 W in Round Rock. However, even after Union Pacific discontinued passenger service through Seagoville in 1970, Amtrak continued to serve it until 1984 when it transferred its operations to Dallas/Fort Worth. Passenger service returned to Seagoville on May 10th, 2009 when Amtrak began daily train services between Austin and San Antonio using new tracks built near Houston which crossed over Interstate Highway 183 just east of town. Today, much of what once made up downtown Seagoville has been annihilated by development - but there are still many remnants that visitors can explore such as an old church that was turned into a hotel; an old cotton gin; and several businesses along US 183 that remain unchanged from their original days including J R Goldsmith's grocery store which still stands today next to his son's hair salon; also present are two large chicken coops dating back to around 1900 both still standing today!
Red dot sights are a type of sighting system used in firearms. The first red dot sights were developed in the early 1960s by American inventor Dean W. Kamen, who patented the design in 1967. They became popularized after they were adopted by the United States military in the 1970s as part of their heavier-caliber sniper rifles and pistols. Today, red dot sights are most commonly used with handguns for target shooting and hunting purposes.
The Red Dot Sight History website is a database of red dot sights that has been compiled over time. The site includes information on models, manufacturers, and years of production.
