South Houston is a city in Harris County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,815 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. SouthHouston is located on the southern border of Houston and its twin city of MidtownHouston. The first Europeans to visit what is now South Houston were French explorers in 1713 and 1714 who named it "Houy Bayou". In 1836, British explorer James Fenton discovered what is now downtown South Houston when he sailed down Buffalo Bayou. On July 8, 1836, Fenton wrote: "On descending Buffalo Bayou I observed several small villages situated upon its courses; one of these appeared to me to be founded by Indians." In 1839, General Sam Houston decided to build a military fort in what is now downtown SouthHouston after his victory over Mexican forces at San Jacinto Battlefield. The fort was called Fort Transylvania and became a major center for trade and commerce in the region. The first U.S.-owned cotton gin was built in nearby Clear Lake by Daniel Webster in 1850. During Reconstruction following the American Civil War, many Southerners fled northward into Canada or westward into Mexico during the so-called Great Migration for economic reasons as well as political changes that favored white rule over blackrule in America. By 1870s most Southerners had returned home except for a few thousand Texans whoadobe around Dallas until 1949 when they moved their headquarters back to Austin because of integrated education there (Austin Independent School District). In 1890s Mexicans also began arriving from Baja California as railway workers on guest worker programs sponsored by President Grover Cleveland’s New Deal programs which ended with World War II when Southern Californians returning home found their businesses destroyed by Japanese Americans living among them without proper documentation or registration! Many old SouthHouston homes still stand today including some dating back to before annexation! Many young people moving out of large cities such as Austin wanted something more affordable near themselves where they could live close enough to work but far enough away from big-city sprawl that they would not experience high rates of crime or pollution like they did in larger communities like Los Angeles or Chicago

Despite these restrictions, firearms continue to be used across multiple industries throughout the United States today - particularly within law enforcement departments - with some1 million guns being confiscated annually by federal agents alone due to criminal activity involving them. South Houston was founded in 1836 as the town of Huntsville. It grew quickly and by 1840 it had a population of 6,000 people. The town was renamed South Houston in 1851 after General Sam Houston's victory at the Battle of San Jacinto. In 1907, South Houston became the county seat of Harris County.
The first European to set foot in what is now South Houston was Juan de Grijalva, an explorer who found oil fields in 1839. The area that would become South Houston was first settled by the Killeen and Brazos families in the 1840s. In 1848, a group of Texans led by Sam Houston purchased 3,000 acres of land near what is now Lamar Boulevard and Missouri Avenue for $2 per acre. The community known asHouston began to form from this initial land purchase. In 1853, Houston Mayor James Polk announced the city was going to annex much of Galveston County and formed a new county called Harris County with its own government and court system.South Houston soon emerged as one of Harris County's most important neighborhoods because it lay on the border between two counties and its location made it a natural center for trade and commerce. In 1863, General Andrew Johnson ordered Confederate General Robert Ewell tocross the Texas-Mexico state line into Texas in order to find oil resources. Ewell's crossing destroyed many homes and businesses along Missouri Avenue in South Houston, which lead to the name "the Crossroads of History." After his defeat at Gettysburg, Johnson ordered Ewell back across the state line but he instead disbanded his forces and moved westward towards Corpus Christi where he discovered more oil reserves. During World War II, South Houston played an important role as part of Code Talker Ranch Army Air Force base located just east of downtown at I-10 & US-290 FM 925 (now I-610). code talkers were members of United States military units stationed abroad who communicated signals using only their sign language while living under enemy fire during World War II. After World War II ended, many Korean Americans moved into South Houston from other parts of Texas during that era’s economic boom period following America’s entry into World War II. Many Koreans established themselves within local business communities such as those around Lamar Boulevard & Missouri Avenue before becoming increasingly politicized after Japanese American Internment began in 1942. After years of struggle against discriminatory policies enacted by both local authorities and federal officials alike, Koreans achieved full Integration into American society by 1960 regardless of race or ethnicity
