Stafford, Texas is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,876 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tyler– Fort Worth Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in Stafford were the Houstons who settled there in 1868. They came from Tennessee and were farmers. In 1902, the town was named after General John Pemberton Stafford and his family who had come totxas from Illinois. In 1909, the name of the town changed to Stafford when it annexed parts of New Braunfels and Medina Counties. The post office was established in 1911 and remained open until it closed in 1976. The first school for students in Stafford was built on Main Street in 1912 by Mrs. Anna Bigham Costello with money she received from her husband Sam Costello Jr.. The cost of construction was $2,000 which included five white boards with hinged covers that could be opened for ventilation during hot weather. As more children were born and families moved into the community, a new school building became necessary and it was completed in 1915 by Wm Hays with funds provided by Mrs. Lillie Beason Gorman (wife of Wesley Gorman). A new library also served as a primary school before its closure in 1984 due to budget cuts within Hudspeth County government; however, district officials have since announced plans to reopen it as an educational resource center called "Libraries 2 Learning". When Hurricane Ike passed through Hudspeth County on September 13-17th 2008 destructive winds downed power lines throughout much of downtown Stafford; this left many residents without electricity or access to water for over two days prior to restoration starting late on September 18th In recent years there has been significant development taking place near downtown where several high-rise buildings have been erected including: First Baptist Church located at 512 Neches St., Walmart Supercenter at 501 E Harrison Ave., Gibbs Insurance Company Building (formerly known as Texaco) located at 601 E Garrison Ave., Alliant Energy Center located next door to Wichita State University's Kelley School Of Business - now home to IMAX theater - formerly known as Chevron gas station/restaurant complex Accordingly businesses such as these are having an impact on retail areas around Main Street along with increased traffic congestion caused by people coming into town for lunch or shopping because they don't have any other option nearby. Downtown still retains its small-town feel despite all this development taking place just outside its boundaries

Stafford is a town in Potter County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,723 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo–New Braunfels Metropolitan Statistical Area. Stafford was founded in 1878 by J.P. Stafford and named after his brother-in-law, General Andrew Johnson (1785-1849). Stafford started out as a small farming community with 3 or 4 families. By the early 1900s, the population had grown to 10 or 12 families and some businesses had been erected: a post office, a bank, a store open for business on Main Street since 1907 (the first one in this area), two churches – First Methodist and Baptist – and several residences. In 1902, General Sherman Houston donated land on which to build what is now the original high school building; it opened in 1903. The first post office in Potter County - Joplin - opened on September 15th 1881 with Wm A Fenton as its first clerk. In 1906, Stafford became an independent municipality within Potter County when it split from Joplin Township to become its own entity under the name of "Stafford". The only evidence remaining of that earlier township are two short streets leading east fromnorthwest corner of town square - New Market Road and Old Market Road - which still retain their former namesakes today: N M R Rd & O H R Rd respectively The 1915 Agricultural Census counted 5 farmers with 158 cattle and 27 horse(s) reported on 184 acres; 1 blacksmith shop operated; 1 grocery store did not open until 1919; 3 physicians were listed with 24 patients treated between 1911-1915 including 2 Surgeons/Surgeons' Assistants; there were also 2 teachers listed who taught 8th grade classes from 1913-1915 . The town of Stafford was founded on the Brazos River in 1859 by Andrew E. Stafford, a farmer and surveyor. The town grew rapidly due to its location near the river and its access to transportation including wagon roads, stagecoach lines, and railroads. In 1865, Stafford became the county seat of Hudspeth County. The town continued to grow and develop until the late 1800s when it began to decline as a result of factors such as population growth in other nearby towns, competition from larger cities, and lack of development opportunities. In 1900, Stafford was renamed Nacogdoches after General James Fenton Nacogdoches, who served as Commandant at Fort Sam Houston during the Mexican-American War.
