Taylor was founded in 1874 by citizens of Fort Worth and named for General Taylor who had been president of the United States that year. In 1907, it became a city and has since grown to be one of the fastest-growing cities in Texas. The downtown district features a mix of old and new architecture from different eras including brick buildings dating back to 1872 and an addition from 1922 that is home to the Texas Museum of American History. Today, Taylor's economy revolves around trade, manufacturing and services such as health care and tourism. The city also boasts several high-rise buildings built for the oil business which have now been turned into residential units or businesses. The most famous resident of Taylor is entrepreneur Travis Kalanick who started PayPal Inc., one of Silicon Valley's leading technology companies. He also founded Apple Inc., Facebook (FB), Twitter (TWTR) and other San Francisco-based startups before moving to Austin in 2006 to found his own software company called OnStar Corp..

Taylor, Texas is a town in the U.S. state of Texas, located on the Llano River about 25 miles northeast of Austin and 375 miles west of Dallas. The population was 10,832 at the 2010 census. Taylor has been inhabited since at least 1836 when it was part of the Mexican Republic of Coahuila y Tejas. The town began as a cattle station called "Frio" on December 12, 1836 by John Sitton and his family. In 1840, Frederick Clements built what is now known as Fort Worth's first post office in Taylor. In 1851–52, Major James Hogg founded Baylor University in Taylor and this led to growth in Taylor over time. In 1865, General Sam Houston ordered all settlers to leave Texarkana because he felt that it was under Spanish control too long and he wanted to take advantage of new land east of the Brazos River that had been opened up by Congress under President Andrew Johnson for settlement by American citizens who could not get citizenship due to their Chinese ancestry or other qualifications prescribed by law. The Texans who remained fought against Mexican forces until they were driven out from Texarkana in January 1866; most likely due to American military support from nearby Fort Worth which had also become allied with Mexico during the war effort against Spain. The Post Office was renamed "Taylor" on July 1st 1870 after Rufus Fenton Taylor (1784-1869), an Associate Justice on the Texas Supreme Court from 1865-1868 and mayor (1863-1865) of Austin before becoming one of its justices; he also served as comptroller general for Travis County from 1861-1863 while living in Austin proper. General Sam Houston returned to Austin two weeks later after leading a force into Mexico City to capture Santa Anna and restore order there; upon his return home he ordered all refugees across state lines removed except those arriving at Trinity Station where they were processed into United States military units then stationed until their discharge home without distinction regardless race or ethnicity – this event is sometimes referred to as "the cleansing OF TX". While many people may still refer to themselves as Texans even after so many years outside officialdom, Independence Day celebrates US national independence day rather than local independence day so this event may be less important culturally speaking today
