In 1865, photographer and hunter John Steuben Taylor located a well-preserved 18th century hunting rifle at the edge of a forest in what is now Taylor, Texas. The rifle was one of many that Taylor gathered from across the United States during his long career as a professional photographer and hunter. The rifle's history begins with its purchase by American Revolutionary War veteran James Robertson in 1794. For over two centuries, the gun has been part of the family tradition of Robertson deer hunters in western Texas. In 1935, when John SteubenTaylor donated the rifle to the University of Texas at Austin, he knew that it would be an important part of campus lore and culture for many decades to come. In recent years, attention has focused on Taylor's role in developing optics technology. One example is the restoration and display of the Taylor Camera obscura - an early 20th century camera designed primarily for photographing night sky objects such as galaxies and stars - at UT Austin's museumof photography. Thischurch burned down 3 years later but another Baptist church was erected $10 . A Presbyterian Church also built for $25 but it caught fire 3 years later so it too burned down A Methodist Church also built for $25 but it caught fire 3 years later so it too burned down In 1919 – 1920 During prohibition era some members raised money thru sideshow games( like “The Cradle Snatcher” which involved kidnapping babies from families who then sold them off) to buy drinks for speakeasies As prices went up people stopped doing this

Taylor was founded in 1845 by a group of Methodists from Cumberland County, Kentucky. The town grew quickly due to its location at the crossroads of two wagon trails and its close proximity to Fort Worth. In 1853, Taylor became the capital of the new Republic of Texas. It remained an important center for trade and commerce through the Civil War and into the 20th century.
