Texarkana (population: 78,527) is a city in Texas, United States. The population was estimated at 100,824 as of the 2010 census. Texarkana is the county seat of Lubbock County. It lies in the eastern corner of Lubbock County and is bordered to the northeast by Midland County and to the southwest by Chisago County. The name "Texarkana" is derived from Arapaho words meaning "the Great Arkansas River". The first settler in what would become Texarkana rancho was James Fenton, who arrived in 1836. Fenton named his rancho for General Sam Houston's home state of Texas, Texas de la Vega y Costilla y Morelos (or Texas Hill Country), which he had visited while on an official military journey through that region some years earlier. In 1846, George Whitworth purchased land east of present-day Texarkana from Fenton and began building a trading post there called Fort Worth on August 24th of that year. At this time Texans referred to their new settlement as "Fort Worth." In February 1847 Waco stagecoach driver Edwin Bledsoe discovered oil well sites about 10 miles northwest of modern Texarkana when he stopped near Springdale for water on his way back north to Wichita Falls with his load of supplies. He reported this discovery to John Dillard and other Texans soon after while driving along I-30 westbound near present-day Humble Oil Field; it was not until later that Dillard realized Bledsoe's report could only mean one thing - oil was being produced in central Texas! On April 6th, 1847 JF Armstrong drilled a well at what would become known as Armstrong No 2 just south of present-day Texarkana; within weeks Armstrong had developed production capabilities significantly exceeding those at Fort Worth and became facto head operator for the Sprinkle brothers Syndicate company which then extended its operations into southeast border Midland Counties including nearby Odessa where pioneer James Kenedy started production also around this time producing significant quantities of oil from saltpeter mines below Manchaca Lake although surface exploration continued intermittently until 1903 The town site sprang up rapidly with citizens buying lots or contributing money for a schoolhouse, jail/courthouse/road construction etc., primarily due to tight monetary constraints placed upon settlers during frontier times by prior Mexican governments which levied high rates for passage across their territories especially during harsh winter months when few options were available other than traversing hostile country laden with Indians where travel could be very dangerous indeed! Most early residents were farmers either raising livestock or mining phosphate ore located several miles east and southwest OF town Limits & transporting goods via oxcart over snow covered roads leading into Indian Territory beyond today's city limits & many died trying making those long trip militia forces disbanded many times over during much historic conflict between Utes (& Mexicans) Cowboys & our Cowboy neighbors living HERE TODAY

Texarkana is a town in United States south of Amarillo, Texas. The population was 5,890 at the 2010 census. It was founded by Austin and Enoch Hill in 1879 as the Territorial Settlement of Texarkana. The name "Texarkana" (from the Choctaw words tx'e-rak'ta and -naha) means "the place where water falls." The first post office in Texarkana was established on July 10, 1879. In 1886, it became the county seat of Marshall County. A school district was formed in 1907 which merged into the School District of Medina Counties in 1909. The town site was surveyed by George Hennepin for American Land Company on December 15, 1879 and named after General Stephen Fayette Dallas who had served with distinction during the Mexican-American War. On January 1, 1880, Dallas sent commissioners to explore possible locations for a territorial capital and they recommended that Texarkana be chosen as the new seat because its location would make it easily accessible from all parts of Texas. On October 30, 1890 property were conveyed to J C Guthrie for development into what would become Texarkana downtown area today including many current businesses such as The University Bookstore & Cafe (now known as Gourd Store), First National Bank Building #1 and #2 (now Century 21 Convention Center), State Theater (now AT&T Stadium), plus an additional 4 blocks eastward along Third Street towards present day Lamar Street which included what is now Hwy 121 traffic circle and old US 290/US 45 intersection which are still visible today on maps even though these intersections have been replaced by Interstate 20/Hwy 271 intersection just north of town limits
