By 1888 production had reached 1 million barrels per day and $2 million had been invested; but by 1889 interest payments were causing financial problems for those behind the project and production declined until 1901 when new owners arrived who stabilized operations and resumed production under contract until 1914 when World War I caused an interruption; but resumed again after Armistice Day 1918 due to shortages caused by Spanish flu pandemic (1918-1919) In 1927 Pecos Corporation acquired control over Texarkana Refining Company which became known as Pecos Petroleum Corporation Ltd., later ExxonMobil Corp., before selling it off to Mobil Oil Corporation in 1986 In 1941 during World War II Texarkana Air Base was established adjacent to town providing military airlift support for Bataan Peninsula campaign

In 2008, it became one of only two American cities to host Day One Olympic bidding events – becoming home to both men's basketball gold medalist Michael Jordan and women's gymnastics world champion Simone Biles during their respective Summer Olympics bids On July 26th 2017 US Cellular Stadium opened up shop as home field for many future NCAA football games including Baylor Bears vs TCU Horned Frogs
