The townsite grew rapidly due to its strategic location midway between Austin/San Antonio & New Orleans trade routes as well as its proximity to both Mexican land grants made available by President James K. It should be noted that these events are only representative examples; real life dangers occur daily without warning or precedent for any particular locality or community within North Texas."

Universal City became a county seat in 1895 and has been since then its only government. One of Universal City's earliest businesses was a hotel called the "Casa Grande". In 1902 it became known as the "Hilton Imperial" after it became one of several properties purchased by oil tycoon J P Morgan for $2 million dollars. The building still stands today and is used as a marketing office for D&D Gaming Inc., one of Universal City's many local businesses. In 1951, when Interstate 10 traversed through Webb County, highway builders decided to connecting all sections of Webb County into one big road system - an idea first floated by US Congressman Lamar Alexander who at that time represented Tennessee’s 4th congressional district and later U S Senator from Tennessee Patterson had helped pass legislation authorizing this project back in 1945). To make room for I-10 between San Antonio and Lubbock on its original path through Webb County (and also to provide more access to El Paso), Universal City voters approved using eminent domain to build what would become Loop 410 (later I-10 West) out from downtown into rural areas east of Loop 410 including portions now located within Presidio Park subdivision outside San Antonio proper limits; these lands were eventually annexed into Edwards Air Force Base which took shape some years later with much higher housing prices than present day UniversalCity despite little or no public infrastructure development taking place on these parcels other than occasional military use during World War II until AFB expansion increased civilian usage/development opportunities greatly increasing retail/employment opportunities nearby while largely excluding residential neighborhoods near main gate Airport Industrial park Playa Vista annexation ++ ----- ***** ***** *****

The area that would become Universal City was part of Mexico and it wasn't until after the Mexican-American War in 1848 that U.S. settlers began to arrive in what is now Universal City. In 1850, a post office called San Antonio was established in what is now Universal City, and by 1861, there were over 100 businesses in the city. In 1865, San Antonio became a state capital and Universal City became its third city. In 1881, two oil wells were discovered near what is nowUniversal City and rapid growth followed as entrepreneurs searched for new sources of income. By 1912, there were over 1,000 businesses inUniversalCityandby 1920,the population had reached 5,000. The city's heyday came during World War II when it was home to more than 20 military bases and more than 100 thousand residents who contributed to the war effort.
