John Addison Vidor (1847-1931) founded the town ofvidorsville on November 2, 1879 after purchasing 5 acres (20 ha) east of what is now downtown Houston from Wm Muhlenberg. He named it after General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna who had fought during the Mexican American War and later became governor of Texas In 1881 John Addison bought another 15 acres (50 ha), southwest ofvidorsville from Moses Comanche for $1 per acre ($40 per sq mi). This property formed what is now known as Park Heights Cemetery On April 14th 1886 he donated land east sideof park hill toStapler Baptist Church for use as an additional cemetery . In 1923 this cemetery land was combined with that west sideof parkhill to form new Main Street . Iden'tation changes occurred around this time so most likely due to World War II when much farm land went into military service From 1925 until 1930 there were also 3 small schools: First Methodist School (now Washington Elementary school), Second Methodist School (now Rice Middle Schools), and Third Methodist School (now Bexar Lutheran High School). These schools closed when annexation by Houston created District 7A in 1931 In 1933 John Addison's grandson donationnew churchon cornerof Main Streetand Elm street for $5 per acre (). Today this church still stands as United Reformed Church .
