However, since then much of what made Weatherford economically successful has been lost to development or alterations to its landscape: most notably its downtown area which has become deteriorating and rundown since then; although some new businesses have sprung up in recent years including a hotel/conference center complex that overlooks the riverfront; while other areas such as The Strip continue to decline The city is located on US-183 about 12 miles east of downtown Dallas via I-635 (the only major freeway passing through) with access from both I-635/US 183 interchange westbound and FM 925 eastbound . From I-635 southbound visitors can take exit 244 onto SB 3403 which leads them north towards Midway Station on Loop 610 (an hour drive). With access from I-635 southbound visitors can also access US 183 northbound just after Exit 244 (just past mile marker 291), making it easy for motorists not using loop 610 or I-635 access arteries like Main Street between exits 241B & 241C (I-35W) or SH 350E & FW 350E (SH 359W) - all exits within 3 miles of Interstate 183 - to reach their destination without going through Dallas!
