Kansas City businessman George Stephenson donated land for what would become Wichita State University in 1907 when he donated $1 million towards its construction; it opened its doors on October 1, 1909. The university became Baylor University after Waco Baptist Temple (now Baylor University) merged with Baylor School of Medicine in 1923; it then became Baylor School of Veterinary Medicine following their merger into Baylor College of Veterinary Medicine in 1930). Rochester Institute of Technology moved to downtown Wichita Falls from Olathe Municipal Airport in 1951; they later merged into Central State Teachers College which became Central State University–Wichita Falls effective fall 1966 before becoming Central State Polytechnic Institute effective fall 1987 prior to coming under the control of UT Dallas effective spring 2012(). The current name was given to the city by then-Mayor Phil Burton upon adopting an ordinance naming all properties within the limits "Wichita Falls" beginning on January 6th, 1984 pursuant to Section 5A(a)(1) of Mayor Burton's Declaration No.: 84-0102C annexed thereto filed March 4th 1984 pursuant to Chapter 3594 Laws Of Texas Legislature Annotated (the "Declaration"). On August 5th, 1990 KUSA Broadcasting Corporation established new studios here located at 501 Elm Street east off I-35 south just past Walnut Street feeding TXDOT facilities northward across Elm Street until their move onto Clear Creek Parkway two years later providing significant coverage away from KSNT affiliates during severe weather events such as tornadoes/lightening HAARP operations etc...
