The airfield was used for bombing runs over 435 miles (700 km) across Arizona andUtah before its closure in 1945. After World War II ended, development resumed with many new homes being built along Route 66 which ran through the center of town as well as business opportunities for locals such as grocery stores and restaurants dotting the downtown area today. Many people from outlying areas moved into Herriman during this time including veterans who were looking for job stability afterWWII ended and their families could finally afford larger homes outside of city limits
