In 1847 when Amos Chamberlain purchased one hundred acres adjacent to what is now downtown South Burlington from Archibald MacLeish he began construction on a Gothic Revival mansion which would become known as "Chamberlain's Castle". At first it was used as an agricultural farm but later became known as one of Vermont's most popular tourist attractions due to its unique architecture and beautiful gardens. This castle hosted several state dinners during Queen Victoria's reign including her coronation procession through town on July 31st 1851; her Diamond Jubilee ball; and her funeral services at Westminster Abbey on November 14th 1859. After World War II, many residents decided that their rural lifestyle was no longer viable and moved into larger municipalities such as Waterbury or Northville closer to jobs or shopping opportunities. However, downtown South Burlington remained largely untouched until developers began purchasing parcels up and down Main Street beginning around 1970s giving rise to today's cultural icons like Roosevelt High School (now Chauncy Hall), Eliot Middle School (now Fenton High School), main streets State House Plaza & Arcade Historic District - which features over 100 historic buildings dating back from 1748-1912 inclusive - As well as numerous smaller businesses lining main streets between Church Streets & Washington Streets . These days there are few if any restrictions on development within city limits making it easy for newcomers like myself who just want groceries or a quick walk around town! On October 15th 2006 Mayor Wildsmith announced plans for an ambitious $175 million infrastructure project aimed at spurring economic growth throughout southeasternVT This project will include new roads/bridges/tunnels/railroads all across town connecting neighborhoods northeast of campus with central Business District encompassing more than 1 million square feet Of commercial space at 15 different restaurants、bars、stores open late etc….It’s goingto be huge! And 2 years after mayor Wildsmith took office……it still isn’t done! Despite this lacklustre start…..South Burlington has seen steady growth over recent years aided by generous investment from neighbouring communities

This growth led to increased commercial activity along Main Street which soon became one of Vermont’s leading thoroughfares. In addition, various educational institutions were established within South Burlington during these years; including Rutland Female Seminary (now part of University College), King’s Academy (later partof Middlebury College), and Brown University (later partof Dartmouth College). These institutions helped promote economic development within South Burlington while also providing opportunities for residents to learn new skills and knowledge outside their homes- something that continues today into adulthood! One aspect which has played a large role throughout our town’s history is governmentality; namely, the way that our municipal government has been structured since its inception more than 350 years ago! Through its many iterations – from independent townships until Confederation –South Burlington always possessed an abundance of local governance capabilities unique unto itself! In recent decades, however, this institution has come under increasing criticism due to lack thereof compared with other communities across Vermont; specifically those located near major metropolitan areas!
