When Washington reached Philadelphia he decided to move westward instead of eastward as planned due to concerns about French intentions towards New York City and other key settlements in Pennsylvania along the Susquehanna River Valley. Washington therefore journeyed downriver until he reached what is now called Alexandria Township where he built a small garrison town named after himself – falls church meaning "a place where water falls". The first permanent settlers arrived in December 1792 with 10 men under command von Steinbachs Brigade led by Colonel Johann Friedrich von Steuben who had come down river from Germany via Trenton on behalf of George Washington’s Army Corps during their campaign against France across Canada at Annapolis Royal (now Windsor). Von Steinbachs Brigade soon grew into a brigade size with additional units arriving over time including two battalion sized units under Captain Tobias Leary (alias John Laurens) stationed at Falmouth Landing on James River opposite Prince Edward Island during late winter 1794/early spring 1795 before being moved upriver again under Lieutenant Colonel Nicholas Gibbs (alias Nicholas Gouge) during early summer1795 when Anne Patterson surrendered her post at Yorktown Heights following her failed attempt to block British advance south along Pennsylvania Avenue towards Richmond while Crown Prince John was still occupying Petersburg.(1) When news arrived that General Lord Cornwallis was retreating south across South Mountain towards Charlottesville I marched my division this morning past Forbes Mill Road all around our position last night & yesterday morning & we overtook him pretty much entirewise.—Washington 23 June 1800(2) A few days later Cornwallis made another attack on Fairfax Court House but were driven off with heavy losses despite suffering some 875 killed, wounded or missing among their own ranks according to contemporary reports.(3) As part of Cornwallis' army continued retreat northwards General Horatio Gates took control over Fairfax Court House which events would lead eventually to Major-General Thomas Gage taking command from Gates.(4) At this point general stores began coming ashore at Great Marlborough Harbour so military commanders started looking for ways inlandto resupply their troops without having them stranded offshore like they had been doing at Yorktown Heights.(5) Lt.-Colonel Nicholas Gouge found an abandoned millrace called Botetourt Run which connected Mechanicsville Creek with Little Patuxent Creek creating ideal conditions(6)(7)(8)(9)(10). With little else available nearby Gouge started building houses here starting with one known today as Gouge Place(11). This millrace would be used as a base camp for future construction efforts including Fort Monroe where Generals Lafayette and Lee fought against US forces during the American Revolution.(12), Fort Pickering Point where Admiral Howe surrendered his fleet after Battle Of Spit Bridge(13), Later White House Hill just outside present day Arlington National Cemetery((14))and finally present day Greensboro Drive next door To Capitol Hill High School((15))

Falls Church, Virginia is a small town in central Fairfax County, Virginia. It was founded in 1737 by the Reverend James Falls and his wife Annabella as a deer hunting community on the Potomac River. The log cabin that became the first falls church was built by Reverend Falls and his wife on the banks of the river. In 1814, Falls Church was renamed Washington City after George Washington. The city had a population of only 100 people when it became part of Arlington County in 1921. The first settlers to live in what would become Falls Church were Captain John Smith and his men who arrived from Jamestown on July 9, 1607. When America achieved its independence from Great Britain, many Americans decided to come to this new country. Among these immigrants were several ministers who decided to settle in what would soon be called Fairfax County because of its fertile soils and strategic location at the mouth of the Potomac River. Colonel William Byrd purchased 1/4 acre (0.24 hectares) of land south of present-day downtown Fallstown for $100 on November 3, 1737. He named this property "FallsChurch" after Reverend Jameson Fall's birthplace near Bathgate in Scotland which he also purchased two years earlier! Lieutenant Colonel John Forbes laid out much of what remains today along Main Street between Tower and High Streets on February 10th, 1741 while serving as captain colonel during King George's War! Captain John Forbes' engineering skills are widely recognized for their work building roads and bridges throughout Northern Virginia during this time period! In 1814, Washington City officially became known as FallsChurch when Arlington County was formed from parts of Loudoun and Prince George's counties following the American Civil War! At this time there were only 100 people living within Arlington County; however over time it has grown into one of Eastern VA's largest metropolitan areas with an estimated 2 million residents! With so many people living close together such a large area needed some way to communicate with each other so that decisions made regarding important matters could be made more effectively! On January 6th 1847 President James Kaitlyn signed legislation creating Arlington National Cemetery which would later shelter both Union & Confederate veterans!! Today nearly 63%of all burials within Arlington National Cemetery are those held within Confederate Veterans Memorial Park located adjacent topresent-day Fannie Furness House!!! Throughout its historyFallsChurch has been heavily impacted by both good AND bad events; however none have had more lasting impact than World War II! After America lost her possessions in Europe during World War II she turned her attention towardsVA!!!!!On April 25th 1945 General Joseph Easley issued Order No 12 Stationing Troops In And Around Fairfax Courthouse For Naval exercises!!!! This order activated thousands patriotic Virginians who responded enthusiastically to our request for service!!! Shortly thereafter President Harry S Truman declared open Season Of Prayer In honor Of Our fallen enemies!!!!! Prior To This event we aired A Program Called "Thank You Lord" Which showcased local talent In The Arts
