The first gun shop in America was opened in 1762 by Nicholas Oakey at Bushrod Point on York River. The first store in America was also open at Bushrod Point. In 1801, General John Pope took over command of United States forces stationed at Fort Monroe and moved his headquarters to Fredericksburg. On May 10th, 1801, General Pope issued a proclamation calling for all able-bodied men of color to join him in suppressing insurrection within the limits of this colony. One hundred fifty-six men responded to this call and formed into companies called "Light Infantry." These troops were initially armed with pistols only but soon began using rifles which gave them an advantage against their colonial opponents. The Gun Makers Company was chartered in 1802 by George Washington as a means for purchasing arms needed for military duty outside of Boston. The Gun Makers Company became one of the most important armories in America because it could produce guns quickly and efficiently without having to go through government channels or waiting for orders from superiors

One of the most important historical events to occur in Fredericksburg took place on July 26, 1862 when Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered his army at Appomattox Court House to Union General Ulysses S. Grant. The town was founded by George Washington and named for him after he died in 1799. The first courthouse was built in 1802 and it still stands today. The first school in Fredericksburg was opened in 1824 and it still remains open today. A post office called Fredericksburg was established in 1828 and it has still been In use today. Frederick Douglass Elementary School is one of the oldest public schools in America and it also serves as a museum today. It is interesting to note that this school served as a model for many other schools across the United States during the 19th century. The American Civil War began on April 12, 1861 with Confederate forces marching into Richmond to proclaim themselves an independent republic known as the Confederacy of Northern Virginia while General Robert E Lee defended their capital city against Union troops under Ulysses S Grant. On July 26th, 1862, Confederate General Robert E Lee surrendered his army at Appomattox Court House to Union General Ulysses S Grant which ended the war between North and Southsequently, Fredericksburg became one of several key battlefields where Union troops were defeated or driven out from Maryland all the way down through Virginia until they reached Petersburg where they declared an end to hostilities on September 2nd 1865 following dayslong fighting culminating with a surrender at Appomattox Court House by Confederate Generals Joseph Hooker and Elizabeth BiddlefieldSAVAGE!

The city was founded by Captain George Washington and his family in 1781 as a temporary location for military activity near Beijing, China. In 1812, the town was moved to its current location on the Potomac River because of fears that Georgetown, adjacent to present-day Fredericksburg, would become too dangerous if the border between Maryland and Virginia were not kept clear. The city's nickname is "The most Confederate Capital on American soil." During the American Civil War (1861- 1865), Fredericksburg played an important role due to its strategic location at mile marker 63 on the Appomattox Court House road network and because of its ability to supply troops with food and munitions moving up the Rappahannock River from Richmond. The Battle of Fredericksburg took place on December 13th 1862, resulting in over 50% casualties among Union forces and 14 artillery pieces captured by Confederate forces[8]. On July 1st, 1861, Captain George Washington organized a group of volunteer soldiers called "The Mountain Meadows Massacre" in order to seek revenge against those who had killed his father few months earlier. Over 60 men died during this event including Captain Washington himself.[9]
