A post office called Manassas Park was established on October 25th, 1890; its first postmaster being Mrs Aiken Gentry Flournoy. With only 10 residents registered within its first year it quickly grew into a small town with over 20 residents by 1900 thanks to cotton plantations run by African Americans working alongside white farmers supplying labor for mills located nearby like Bedford Mills spinning cloth and Spindletop mine workings extracting coal providing hot water power services etcetera etcetera... By 1910 there were over 100 people living here! During World War II many citizens served in uniform including Air Force pilot Captain Floyd Cramer who flew bombing missions over Europe while stationed at RAF Great Yarmouth England between 1942-1945; he is buried at Elmendorf Air Force Base along with other WWII veterans there such as First Lieutenant Harry Summers who flew 375 combat missions over Japan flying P-38 Lightning pilots followed by Staff Sergeant William Pogue test flying an F4U Corsair during carrier operations off Leyte Gulf during Battle Of Leyte which resulted in his death As early as 1915 plans were being made for development around what would become Manassas Park; these included developing a shopping center (later named Metroparks) housing stores such as Woolworth's grocery store featuring gas stations operated by Mobil Oil Corporation filling up oil tanks parked next door; then later JCPenney department store also opened adjacent parking lots becoming one of America's largest department stores open air shopping areas until 1974 when it closed down due mainly to competition from larger malls opening up throughout Northern Virginia Sears left died soon thereafter leaving very little impact on what developed around Manassas Park aside from residential development continuing apace until recently... Today much remains unchanged save for increased traffic volumes leading up to Ivar Doan Stadium which has been home to various high school sports teams since 1978... all things considered it may come as no surprise that development around this formerly quiet community has more than tripled since 2000 when Google - through its parent company Alphabet Inc - announced plans To build 1 million square feet (~240 acres) of office space within walking distance across five buildings associated with Amherst Town Center adjacent Interstate 95 creating approximately 50 new jobs directly impacted)...Like most places around here history tends to repeat itself often starting with humble beginnings..."
