Tasers were first patented on October 5, 1892 by George Washington Carver. The device was designed to reduce the chances of an erratic or dangerous act by an individual with a weapon. It consisted of two metal electrodes that were connected to a strong control wire. The original taser was not very successful and only had a limited use in law enforcement until it was redesigned in 1984. The new design featured two rotating electrodes that could be aimed at specific areas of the body. The taser has since been used as one of the most common weapons in law enforcement and is now considered standard equipment for police departments around the world.

Martinsville is a town in Prince William County, Virginia, United States. The population was 5,829 at the 2010 census. It is the easternmost incorporated community in Fairfax County. The name of the town comes from General James Martin who had commanded an American brigade besieging Yorktown during the American Revolution. The first settler in Martinsville was George Washington and his family who arrived there in 1792. In 1801, Judge John Marshall moved to Martinsville from Winchester because of its good soils and easy access to water resources. He built a large estate here that still stands today as one of Virginias most well-known landmarks. Judge Marshall's home became known as "Marshalls Mount". In 1810, General James Armistead forced Federal troops out of Yorktown and burned all their supplies while they were encamped at Williamsburg. When news reachedGeneral Washington that his forces had been destroyed he set off for Martinsville with more than 20 thousand men to take back Yorktown from Armistead. After reaching Martinsville he found that many of his men had died due to disease or battle wounds so he camped near present-day Glen Allen Park on Lynchburg Road until reinforcements could arrive.. Aftermath of the Battle of Yorktown: On October 21st, 1781 General James Martin led a brigade against British Colonel Edward Braddock's army at what is now called Braddock Heights (now Arlington Cemetery). Although outnumbered two to one by British soldiers under Major General Forbes Fraser, Martin fought tooth and nail against superior numbers but eventually fellvictoriously when his brigade surrounded and captured Colonel Braddock after a three-hour siege. This event marks the beginning of what would become America's longest military conflict – over control of an important strategic point on Virginia's Eastern Shore - which would continue until 1783 when Cornwallis surrendered at Saratoga Springs, New York City

Martinsville is a town in central Virginia, located on the Fairfax River. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Martinsville-Fairfax County Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Martinsville was Andrew Johnson, who arrived in 1792 and established a farm east of what is now Martinsville Center. He named his farm "Johnson's Ferry" because he transported goods across the river for farmers in neighboring Loudoun County. In 1802, James Fenton bought Johnson's Ferry and moved his family to what is now Martinsville Center. By 1810, there were several stores and three schools in Martinsville, all operated by Presbyterian missionaries. In 1851, General John Custer died at West Point near Manassas Junction while leading an army against Native Americans under Chief Joseph Arapaho. His death stimulated settlement around West Point and nearby Arlington Heights; many men from surrounding counties came to establish crops and homesteads along the Fairfax River frontier. Settlers included George Washington Custis (later First Lady of America), John Taylor Carrington (a Revolutionary War general), Daniel Webster (the second Ulysses S Grant), James Buchanan (the 15th president of the United States) and other notable Americans including inventor Eli Whitney, who developed early successful methods for fabricating cotton textiles from bales of straw that had been processed by hand before being woven into cloth by slaves on large plantations such as those near Richmond or Petersburg. The first post office at Martinsville was established on November 9, 1800, with selected letters provided by then-Governor Robert Dinwiddie as evidence that Virginians were settling down around this new spot after their experience during the French and Indian War years when they had fled to Canada or Mexico City due to war scares over British designs for dominion over North America following its victory over France in that conflict known as the Seven Years' War which ended with Britain becoming a global power with possessions extending from Newfoundland to California When Washington became President in 1789–90 he established new executive departments headed by cabinet members rather than through presidential nominations like previous presidents who relied on state legislatures for confirmation hearings for nominees so their policies could be put into effect without delay . One such nominee was Secretary of State Nicholas Covert whose nomination was defeated 41-8 despite strong support from fellow New Englanders including King George III himself who manifested interest in having someone proficiently able to deal with Russia when it became clear that Napoleon would not succeed on his return from exile throughout Europe Washington soon realized that he needed more people with experience running things within government instead of just young politicians coming up through politics classes Prosecuting criminals Sentencing laws creating regulations building infrastructure developing technologies etc etc etc welding together these various fields so called Executive Branch only 11 people out of 25 had any real experience Nonexecutive Branch consisted mainly of William Ellery Channing 3rd Viscount Chelmsford
