T-shirt manufacturing in Roanoke began in the early 1800s. Before long, residents of Roanoke were purchasing and wearing clothing made from cloth, leather, cotton, or other materials sourced from nearby countries. In the 1840s, a local tailor named Hugh Brougham started manufacturing shirts out of cashmere and other soft materials. By 1850, Roanoke had its own factory that produced over 1,000 shirts per day. Additionally, workers at Brougham’s factory were skilled seamstresses who could sew extremely well on tough fabrics such as cashmere. Roanoke is a town in the U.S. state of Virginia, on the James River. The population was 5,671 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Richmond, Virginia Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Rohan" is either an Anglicized form or shortened form of "Roanoke". The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Roanoke were indentured servants working for Captain John Smith and his crew on their ill-fated Expedition to Northumberland Bay in 1607–08. In 1629, English colonists from Warwick founded a trading post near modern-day Petersburg as an outpost on the James River in order to resist French attempts to control the river and its trade routes through Virginia. The new settlement grew slowly but steadily over time and by 1700 it had a permanent population of about 100 people including 10 Native Americans who lived along with them under treaty directives from British authorities. By 1753, when Queen Anne granted exclusive privileges to settlers within three miles (6 km) of her Bristol Manor estate on Henrico County's Albemarle Peninsula, most of present-day Roanoke had been created including present day downtown area which included two small coves that became known as "Old Point Comfort" and "New Point Comfort". In 1774 Governor Thomas Jefferson ordered General Arthur Ashe to evacuate all Loyalists from Cape Fear because they constituted a threat to public security and because they were considered subversive elements opposed to British rule throughout much of America. Ashe arrived at Roanoke with only 80 men after crossing the Chesapeake Bay on an open boat manned only by paddlers - one hundred days after leaving Jamestown! After two months' march he reached Old Point Comfort where his troops landed unopposed on November 3rd following arduous marches across difficult terrain unsupported by artillery or cavalry support; however, they quickly realized that there was no shelter available other than a few logs built into sandbars offshore; so they began plundering local fishermen who provided food for their troops while also taking any valuable goods ashore! On November 9th they again set out across rough water but this time made landfall at New Point Comfort just before nightfall - thus becoming one of only two American armies ever ashore in Colonial America! A series of successful raids against Conchology (the coastwise contraband trade carried between Algonquian Indians living inland along the Potomac River Valley and Spanish traders off San Diego Island) ensued resulting in substantial prizes being capturedincluding horses, beaver pelts, fur robes, tobacco etc., which led both groups gradually towards intertribal warfare culminating finally in Indian War #4 fought between July 29th – September 12th 1775 at Spotsylvania Court House when George Washington's badly needed reinforcements arrived... At Rohanocke nothing happened during these weeks except Cook killed 2 deer without touching them let alone eating them... Although surrounded by hostile Indians with cannonsade opening up every few minutes we managed not lose one man even though visibility was very low due TO our good shooting practice... Finally after 4 days march we arrived at Yorktown Court House where we found 400 more Yankees almost dead from exhaustion having walked 50 miles nonstop!!!!!
