The Winchester Repeating Arms Company was founded in 1892 by George Norris Winchester and Edward L. Smith. The company produced revolvers, shotguns, rifles, pistols and ammunition. In 1907 the company became a subsidiary of Remington Firearms Company. In 1911 the company merged with Browning Arms Company to form Browning-Norris Corporation. In 1924 Browning-Norris Corporation was renamed Winchester Repeating Arms Company again. The current owner of Winchendon is American Outdoor Brands Inc., which purchased it in 1999 from Browning-Norris Corporation. Winchester Repeating Arms Company handguns were originally made with a three round magazine (later four round). It was not until 1903 that they introduced the first revolver with a five round magazine (later six round). From 1892 until 1912 Winchester also produced a pump action shotgun called the Model 1891 (which later evolved into the Model 1895family). The Model 1893 pump action rifle began production in 1896 and continued through 1915; it was replaced by the Model 1898 .30 caliber rifle in 1916. From 1902 to 1907 Winchester also offered a pistol called the Model 1886 (later redesignated as theModel 9mm Parabellum). These handguns were also produced with either 3 or 4 rounds of ammo per magazine depending on availability and type of gun being manufactured at that time.
