The large number of annexation applications and subsequent growth has caused some friction between those who live within Arlington Township and those who live beyond it on properties annexed into Prince George's County since then. These issues have been particularly apparent during recent years when annexations have coincided with increasing development around Interstate 95/U.S.-Canada Bridge over I-5 outside town limits - raising concerns about traffic congestion and possible displacement of longstandingArlington residents as a result. On March 26th2010 voters passed Initiative 1123 giving city status to Arlington village if it meets certain conditions including having a mayor and council members appointed by City Council rather than elected from individual households; creating a fire department; providing affordable housing options for low-income citizens through zoning changes; providing education opportunities for students from low-income homes through grants or scholarships program
