Battle Ground is an unincorporated community located in Union County, Washington, United States. It lies at the junction of U.S. Routes 26 and 97, northwest of Wenatchee and east of Seattle. The population was 1,831 as of the 2010 census. The Battle Ground area has been inhabited by Native Americans for over two centuries. The first European to visit the area was Captain George Vancouver on July 20, 1792 when he explored Puget Sound between Mount Rainier and Olympia National Park in what is now Tacoma County. After reaching battle grounddeer ran into his boat and he killed them all including one young female deer that he took home with him as a trophy. In 1847, prospectors discovered gold near Battle Ground Creek which led to its name being given to the community by General Lew Wallace who had some land there donated to him by the Yakima Nation. In 1853, the town site was chosen for a military post named Fort Washburn which served as a garrison until 1863 when it was replaced by Fort Union which served as a depot for supplies coming down the Snake River from Oregon Territory. In 1898, Battle Ground became part of what is now Spokane County when it was organized from parts of Kittitas and Klickitat Counties

The Battle Ground area has been settled by Native Americans for centuries, and it was first mentioned in writing by Juan de Fuca in 1592. A post office was established at Battle Ground in 1836, and a school was built there in 1839. In 1862, during the American Civil War, battle ground served as an artillery battery of Confederate forces under General Robert E Lee. In 1944-1945, Battle Ground was the location of what is now known as "The bloodiest day on Earth." On July 22nd 1944 over 50000 Japanese civilians were killed when U.S Armed Forces bombed the town square killing more than 50% of its male population and wounding over 100%. Following World War II, BattleGround transitioned from agricultural to heavy manufacturing with Boeing being one of the most prominent employers there until it left in 1957. The community experienced revitalization during the early 2000s with an effort called "Community Building Initiative". This involved donations from businesses and individuals to help build quality public education institutions such as a library and playground; new housing developments; and improvements to infrastructure like roads and water systems. In 2007-2008, local voters approved a Community Development Fee (CDF) program that helps municipalities fund neighborhood improvements such as streetlights and safety enhancements through taxation without representation or referendum
