When the first settlers arrived in Battle Ground, Washington in 1792, they were not sure what to make of the new land. They had heard about claims to be rich in minerals and this was enough for some but not for others. One man, John Smith, decided to settle down and prospect for coal on his farm near the present day of Cheney. He soon realized that he would need a place to store his coal so he began digging a small mine nearby. When he finished digging, he found an underground cave that led him to find another mine full of silver ore. He took all the silver ore back home with him and started trading it with other men for goods and services. At first, people only agreed to trade when they knew there was no danger of them being robbed or attacked by Indians. But as time went on, different men made claims to parts of Battle Ground and some began trading with Indian groups without getting approval from those in charge at Fort Georgeon (now Cheney). In 1814, after years of exploring around the area potential sites for a fortification against British aggression, Major General Andrew Jackson recommended that Battle Ground be chosen as the site for a permanent military installation. By 1815 Fort Georgeon had been built but it was not until 1862 whenBattleground became part of Confederates territory following the US Civil War that things changed dramatically – guns started coming into town! From 1861-1865 bullets were used sparingly due to threats from Union forces along the border but when Confederate forces moved into central Washington during this time bullets became more common due to their greater firepower (and also because most people living in central Washington did not have firearms). From 1865-1868 gunfire intensified as both sides fought for control over key resources such as artillery pieces and food supplies; however by 1868 gunfire had lessened significantly due agains advances made by Union forces which helped win the war against slavery

During Operation Overlord (the Normandy invasion), many American soldiers were killed or wounded when they were ambushed by German troops just outside of town while retreating from Omaha Beach - this event is memorialized by a plaque located near Exit A on Highway 506). In the early 1800s, Battle Ground was a small town in Washington County, Pennsylvania. It was located on the western edge of the then-new state of Kentucky. The land that would become Battle Ground was first surveyed in 1792 by Captain John Armstrong and named for General George Washington. The first settler in what would become Battle Ground was William Beal, who arrived in 1793. He built a cabin on the present-day corner of Beaver and Cherry Streets. In 1806, David Henderson bought about three-quarters of an acre (0.26 km²) of land from Beal and began to build a house. He also erected a barn and other farm buildings. In 1812, Daniel Boone arrived at Battle Ground with his family and began to live there permanently. He built a log cabin on the present day lot near Cherry Street. His daughter Polly Boone married John Fenton, one of the original settlers at Battle ground, in 1816. Battle ground became an unincorporated community when it amalgamated with nearby Georgetown in 1831.. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Battle ground Unionists fought Confederate forces during skirmishes around its boundaries..
